Far be it from me to defend United’s hierarchy but I think it’s out of order to come out and say that in a post match interview and certainly doesn’t help the cause which is what the players should be mainly concerned about rather than covering their own arses after another poor display.
These Director of Football types almost certainly should be held more accountable for what they do or don’t do and maybe they should even front up to the cameras once in a while. However, if Jason Wilcox rocked up at the post-match interview on Saturday and basically said he’d done his job and we’d have 3 points now if Martinez didn’t defend like Sleepy the Dwarf trying to mark Snow White during a kick about in the enchanted forest then the player(s) would be up in arms and rightly so, not to mention that it’d be counterproductive to call out your colleagues in that manner on international TV.
Beyond the quality of the squad, it’s the toxic atmosphere at United which always pulls you back into these situations.
