Battle of Rhode Island Site

In my Wednesday walk post I mentioned visiting a small park in Portsmouth Rhode Island one morning before heading for a dentist appoitnment, and today I will share a few shots from that park, which I had no idea what it was called at the time just happened to drive by it and check it out

as I said I didnt know what this site was about when I visited there but preparing this post i fould this onlinge

The Battle of Rhode Island Site is the partially preserved location of the Battle of Rhode Island, fought August 29, 1778 during the American Revolutionary War. The battle took place in the town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, located on Aquidneck Island north of Newport, and was the only major action of the war that took place in Rhode Island. It was also significant as the only battle of the war in which an entirely segregated unit of African-American soldiers fought. At the time of the action, the 1st Rhode Island Regiment consisted of companies of locally recruited African Americans and Native Americans with white officers. The two main areas associated with the battle were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1974

I dnt think my photos do the park justice, not sure if it just wasn't good light or me filling in time before heading to the Ednodontic Dental Doctor and my mind not really being on taking photos as much as it should have been

Let me admit I generally like to think I have a high threshold for pain, but when it comes to dentists I am a wreck, and on that day I was just going for an assesment so logically i know I shouldn't have bene stressed, but ohh I was and thats my excuse for the photos I am sharing .

As it happenned the first visit went well, i have since bene there once more for a Root Canal to be done which also went pretty well although I was nervous as hell, and by the time i post this I will have been for a third time for an oral surgery, apparantly he is going in through my gum and let me just say I a not looking forward to that

Yikes three visits to oral surgeon... I can see how that would make your hands a little shaky on the photos 😆 interesting site. I had no idea there was a Battle of Rhode Island

What a great park, and with a lot of interesting history. It's hard to conceive just how violent that battle must have been, it was up close and personal unlike today where you bomb them or shoot them with a sniper one mile away.

Beautiful pictures, I know what you mean that the images just don't do justice to the real place. Glad the root canal went well, I understand you're trepidation with the dentist as well!

This looks like a beautiful site. I'm hoping to get my wife to Rhode Island one day. I remember visiting Newport as a kid and I have always wanted to get back there.
