Introduction

I have been compiling lists of Hivers in various countries using @hivesql. The profile location data is not very consistent, but I try to group people by area when there are a few. There may be some mistakes due to my lack of local knowledge.

It actually does not take long to put these lists together, but finding all the people in a country takes more work.

I knew this would be a big one and the queries found over 600 accounts active in the last year, but only a quarter are still posting in the last month. I think a lot of people come to Hive with big expectations and then give up when they do not materialise. We have to set realistic expectations.

I knew Hive was big in the Aceh area, so I assume someone was marketing it there.

On the positive side a few people have joined recently, so I hope they get good engagement. If you want to build local communities then it takes work.

There are no big accounts showing up. There are likely to be a few more active people who do not have obvious locations on their profiles. I do not look at posts or anything else apart from the location that they have filled in.

As with all these lists I have put the data file online for others to work on. I can re-run the list if necessary, but if you can find someone with some Python knowledge they could do it. I have no intention to be running lists other than the #BritList very often.

I had someone questioning the usefulness of these lists, but I get a lot of good feedback. I will not take rewards on this one as I have been doing a lot of extra posts lately.

As I have often said, it is up to us all to build the Hive community. You cannot assume others will do it. Everyone can contribute something such as publicising it on other platforms, talking to friends or organising a meetup. When people do join they will need some guidance. Make sure they know that some behaviours are not tolerated, such as copying the work of others. Be original and have fun.
