This film was a test for the brand for me. After Stallone and B. Jordan parted ways, I wondered about the further meaning of watching "Creed". Without Rocky, this universe doesn't exist for me, or at least that's what I thought so far. The director, and at the same time the main actor, did not lie - although Sly is not in this film, his spirit still lingers here and is felt from the first to the last minute. This is visible both in subtle plot and musical references, as well as in the appropriate atmosphere, characteristic of the series. Adonis Creed added something of its own - elements from Japanese Battle Shounen animations. I was afraid of this element, and the fact that each reviewer said something different about them didn't help at all (some complained, others didn't, some said they were subtle references, some said they were too literal). As for my opinion, apart from the last fight scene, in which they got too into the anime atmosphere (both as an actor and as a creator), approaching the border of kitsch and even slightly exceeding it, I have nothing to criticize him for. Anyway, this scene itself isn't bad, it wasn't completely badly presented or anything like that.
Or to put it another way, I'm not very good at judging such things because I'm a long-time anime fan and I'm used to it - I didn't like this scene because it was a bit too long. If it were shortened, I probably wouldn't complain because I don't think, like some critics, that Jordan couldn't show them in a good way. The film had a few problems, sometimes the pacing broke down, but these are things that can be improved, just like boxing technique. I enjoyed watching the film itself - most of the threads had enough space, so they were not tiring, and each character had enough time to develop. The plot was authentic, apart from individual elements, nothing bothered me during the screening. Well, I was just thinking about this poster from "Naruto Shippuuden", as the anime itself debuted 6 years later. On the other hand, such mistakes happen in every movie or series, as long as the story doesn't suffer, it doesn't bother me (and this element fits Creed very well, who unfortunately grew up without a father). And besides, the "Mobile Suit Gundam" posters and figurines... Mr. B. Jordan, it was wonderful <3.
A big advantage was an element that Hollywood creators rarely pay attention to, and the Japanese take it to exaggeration - showing tactical preparation for combat. Already in the first minutes of the film we see how Adonis Creed notices the opponent's unprotected points, finds a gap in the defense for a counterattack, etc., as in "Hajime no Ippo" or other titles. In turn, his opponent combines illegal blows with provocations and point-blank attacks on the opponent (which often distracts us and then "turns off" our ability to act). In this respect he is very reminiscent of Bryan Hawk, the doctor from the first OVA, from "Hajime no Ippo" (and in a few other respects) or warriors who use cheating to win, as is the case in "Baki: Son of Ogre", characters from " Kengan Ashura" or any other cartoon of this type. His planning goes so deep that he literally stands in front of the TV and checks how to attack his opponent - from what angle, etc. and uses his own advantages to fool the opponent - e.g. his guard, which makes it easier to throw a punch, the ability to attack in an unusual way (which requires a lot of body control or training - as it was said and shown in the anime "Kengan Ashura", how the players If they focus 100% only on a fight that is at a high level, their body works subconsciously, based on what it has learned recently.).
Some people complained about Jonathan Majors' overly theatrical style, but for me it came out naturally and coherently - since Damian was in prison, it's not strange to me that he pretends to be someone he's not and is driven by 100% cynicism. This also suits his fighting style - he fools his opponent by sending him ambiguous signals while dealing damage to him. Then he watches his victim and waits for an opportunity to finish him off with his strong right hand. There are people who behave like this and practice it, it is one of the most effective (but also risky) ways to achieve success. There is one more aspect, maybe it's overzealous on my part, but I liked the fact that once Adonis took care of his main weapon, finishing him off was quite an easy task. Yes, Adonis is broken, tired, old, but his opponent was also a grandfather, and in addition, his body had no experience - both brain and body. While the brain's limitations could still be overcome by an unlucky prisoner, the body requires many years of work, to put it bluntly - first, the trainer has to give us a hard time during training so that we can survive the massive pounding we will get during a fight (for those who don't know how sometimes this is what it looks like after a fight - your hands are shaking as if you were in an alcoholic delirium, sometimes you can't even wipe your ass after a shit and your trainer or partner has to do it for you). And more than one self-confident giant was overcome by the feeling of fear, while many idiots overcame it and stood firm on their feet. Effort also shapes a man's character.
Plus, I liked that they were expanding this universe. Without a doubt, I felt vibrations, as if it were some "Dragon Ball Z". Adonis is like Gohan, only not such a soft-hearted idiot, his daughter is Pan, Tessa Thompson is Videl, Sly is Goku, Drago's father is young Vegeta (in character), and Drago Jr. this is Vegeta after the fight with Frieza and the Androids - he's still an asshole, but you can see that a plant full of love is starting to mature in his heart. I don't know who to compare Adonis' friend to, maybe the less evil Frieza? In the sense that he is not completely evil. Even better, he just had bad luck before, went to prison, and then it just went away. At least that's what I see from their conversation at the end of the movie. Gohan must defeat the evil master he worked with when he was younger? Cool, Uncle Vegeta will show up, he never says never when it comes to fighting. Will mom and dad be busy in the next part and there will be no one to leave Little One with? I'm sure that Grandpa Sly, er... Goku, will definitely be happy to visit his beloved granddaughter. Apparently, there will be spin-offs about Adonis' wife and their daughter in the future. So far, I've ridiculed these ideas, but if they have the right plan, it might work - you can feel the chemistry and charisma from these actresses, so if you give them a good script that won't be stretched by the need to create subsequent seasons, it might work.
Well, that's basically it. It wasn't a perfect film, but I didn't plan to finish it in one viewing, but I managed to do it - Asia and I didn't want to stop. I hope other viewers feel the same way, because Michael B. Jordan seems to have the knowledge and skills necessary to continue Stallone's legacy at a high enough level. I'm not happy with every decision, but these have been unimportant so far, especially since he knows why people love "Rocky", he can deliver it to them, and at the same time he is very authentic. And this is much more important than skills that can be developed with experience. The rating is 7/10 with a slight plus. I will definitely come back to it again, although I think the second part was slightly better. Anyway, I can't compare it to Netflix's OP, but I can compare it to another great movie for M&A fans - "Pacific Rim". Both productions are filled to the brim with fanservice for Japanese cartoon fans. It's clear that Jordan is a real fan and not a cynical Disney asshole who pretends to be a fan of Goku, Naruto and fictional heroes.

Bez Rocky'ego, to uniwersum dla mnie nie istnieje, a przynajmniej tak póki co myślałem. Reżyser, a jednocześnie odtwórca głównej roli, nie kłamał - co prawda Sly'a nie ma w tym filmie, ale jego duch ciągle się tu unosi i jest odczuwalny od pierwszej, do ostatniej minuty. Widać to zarówno po subtelnych nawiązaniach fabularnych, czy muzycznych, jak i po odpowiednim, charakterystycznym dla serii klimacie. Adonis Creed dodał coś od siebie - elementy z Japońskich animacji z gatunku Battle Shounen. Obawiałem się tego elementu, a fakt, że każdy recenzent mówił na ich temat co innego, totalnie nie pomagał (jedni narzekali, inni nie, niektórzy mówili że są to subtelne nawiązania, niektórzy że zbyt dosłowne). Jeśli chodzi o moją opinię, to poza ostatnią sceną walki, w której za bardzo wczuli się w klimat anime (zarówno jako aktor, jak i twórca), zbliżając się do granicy kiczu, a nawet delikatnie ją przekraczając, nie mam mu nic do zarzucenia. Zresztą, ta scena sama w sobie nie jest zła, nie została totalnie źle przedstawiona, czy coś w ten deseń.
Albo inaczej, nie jestem zbyt dobry do oceniania takich rzeczy, bo jestem wieloletnim fanem anime i jestem do tego przyzwyczajony - mi się nie spodobała ta scena, bo była troszkę za długa. Gdyby ją skrócić, to zapewne nie narzekałbym, bo nie uważam, podobnie jak niektórzy krytycy, że Jordan nie potrafił ich pokazać w dobry sposób. Film miał parę problemów, czasami pacing się załamywał, ale są to rzeczy, które można poprawić, tak samo jak technikę w boksie. Sam film oglądało mi się przyjemnie - większość wątków miała odpowiednio dużo miejsca, więc nie były męczące, każda postać dostała odpowiednio dużo czasu na rozwój. Fabuła wypadła autentycznie, pomijając pojedyncze elementy, nic mnie nie męczyło podczas seansu. No, jedynie myślałem o tym plakacie z "Naruto Shippuuden", jak samo anime zadebiutowało 6 lat później. Z drugiej strony, takie błędy zdarzają się w każdym filmie lub serialu, tak długo jak nie cierpi na tym historia, tak długo mi to nie przeszkadza (a ten element bardzo fajnie pasuje do Creeda, który niestety wychowywał się bez ojca). A poza tym plakaty i figurki "Mobile Suit Gundam"... Panie B. Jordan, to było cudowne <3.
Dużym plusem był element, na który twórcy z Hollywoodu zbyt rzadko zwracają uwagę, a Japończycy to ogarniają aż do przesady - pokazanie taktycznego przygotowania do walki. Już w pierwszych minutach filmu widzimy, jak Adonis Creed dostrzega niechronione punkty przeciwnika, znajduje lukę w obroniena kontratak etc., jak w "Hajime no Ippo" lub innych tytułach. Z kolei jego przeciwnik, łączy nielegalne ciosy z prowokacjami i punktowym rozwalaniem przeciwnika (co często wygląda tak, że odwracają naszą uwagę, a potem "wyłączają" nasze możliwości działania). Bardzo przypomina w tej kwestii Bryana Hawka, tego lekarza z pierwszej OVA, z "Hajime no Ippo" (i w sumie w paru innych kwestiach) lub wojowników stosujących oszustwa w celu wygrania, jak to bywa "Baki: Son of Ogre", postaci z "Kengan Ashura" lub dowolnie innej kreskówce tego typu. Jego planowanie sięga tak głęboko, że dosłownie staje przed telewizorem i sprawdza, jak atakować swojego przeciwnika - pod jakim kątem etc. oraz wykorzystuje swoje własne atuty, by ogłupić przeciwnika - np. ta jego garda, która ułatwia wyprowadzenie uderzenia, umiejętność ataku w nietypowy sposób (co wymaga dużej kontroli ciała lub treningu - jak było to mówione i pokazane w anime "Kengan Ashura", jak zawodnicy skupią się na 100% tylko na walce, która jest na wysokim poziomie, to ich ciało działa podświadomie, na bazie tego, czego się uczyło w ostatnim czasie.).
Niektórzy narzekali na zbyt teatralny styl Jonathana Majorsa, ale dla mnie wyszło to naturalnie i spójnie - jako że Damian był w więzieniu, to nie jest dla mnie dziwne, że udaje kogoś, kim nie jest i kieruje się w 100% cynizmem. Pasuje to również do jego stylu walki - ogłupia swojego przeciwnika, wysyłając mu niejednoznaczne sygnały, jednocześnie zadając mu obrażenia. Wtedy obserwuje swoją ofiarę i czeka na okazję do dobicia swoją mocną, prawą ręką. Są ludzie, którzy się tak zachowują i to praktykują, jest to jedna ze skuteczniejszych (ale też ryzykownych) dróg do osiągnięcia sukcesu. Jest jeszcze jeden aspekt, być może jest to nadgorliwość z mojej strony, ale podobało mi się to, że jak Adonis zajął się jego główną bronią, to dobicie go było już dość łatwym zadaniem. Tak, Adonis jest połamany, zmęczony, stary, ale jego przeciwnik też był dziadkiem, a dodatkowo jego ciało nie miało doświadczenia - zarówno mózg, jak i ciało. O ile ograniczenia mózgu były jeszcze możliwe do pokonania przez pechowego więźnia, o tyle ciało wymaga wielu lat pracy, mówiąc wprost - najpierw trener musi dać nam wpierdol na treningu, byśmy przeżyli potężny wpierdol, jaki dostaniemy podczas walki (dla tych, co nie wiedzą jak to czasem wygląda po walce - ręce się trzęsą jakbyście byli po alkoholowym delirium, czasem nie możecie nawet podetrzeć dupy po sraniu i musi to zrobić za was trener lub partner / partnerka). A nie jeden pewny siebie olbrzym został pokonany przez uczucie strachu, podczas gdy niejeden kurdupel go przezwyciężył i stał twardo na nogach. Wysiłek kształtuje również męski charakter.
Poza tym, podobało mi się, że rozwijają to uniwersum. Bez kitu czułem wibracje, jakby to był jakiś "Dragon Ball Z". Adonis jak Gohan, tylko nie będący taką miękką fajtłapą, jego córka to Pan, Tessa Thompson Videl, Sly to Goku, ojciec Drago to młody Vegeta (z charakteru), a Drago jr. to taki Vegeta po walce z Freezerem i Androidami - nadal jest dupkiem, ale widać że w jego sercu, zaczyna dojrzewać roślina pełna miłości. Nie wiem, do kogo porównać przyjaciela Adonisa, może mniej złego Freezera? W tym sensie, że nie jest w pełni zły. Dobry tym bardziej, po prostu miał wcześniej pecha, trafił do więzienia, a potem już samo poszło. Tak to przynajmniej widzę po ich rozmowie na końcu filmu. Gohan musi pokonać złego pana, z którym działał za młodu? Spoko, pojawi się wujek Vegeta, który nigdy nie mówi nigdy, jeśli chodzi o walkę. Mama i tato będą zajęci w kolejnej części i nie będzie z kim zostawić Małej? Jestem pewny, że dziadek Sly eee... Goku, na pewno chętnie odwiedzi swoją ukochaną wnuczkę. Podobno w przyszłości mają się pojawić spin-offy o żonie Adonisa i ich córce. Dotychczas wyśmiewałem te pomysły, ale jeżeli będą mieli na to odpowiedni plan, to może się udać - od tych aktorek czuć chemię i charyzmę, więc jeżeli da im się dobry scenariusz, który nie będzie rozciągany koniecznością tworzenia kolejnych sezonów, to może się to udać.
No i generalnie to tyle. Nie był to film idealny, ale nie planowałem skończyć go podczas jednego seansu, a się udało - zarówno ja, jak i Asia nie chcieliśmy przerywać. Mam nadzieję, że inni widzowie myślą podobnie, bo Michael B. Jordan, zdaje się mieć wiedzę i umiejętności, niezbędne do kontynuowania dziedzictwa Stallone'a na odpowiednio wysokim poziomie. Nie jestem zadowolony z każdej decyzji, ale te póki co były nieistotne, zwłaszcza że wie, za co ludzie pokochali "Rocky'ego", umie im to dostarczyć, a jednocześnie jest przy tym bardzo autentyczny. A to ma dużo większe znaczenie niż skill, który można sobie wyrobić wraz z doświadczeniem. Ocena to 7/10 z lekkim plusem. Na pewno do niego wrócę jeszcze raz, choć wydaje mi się, że druga część była nieco lepsza. Tak czy siak,nie mogę tego porównać do OP od Netflixa, ale mogę porównać do innego znakomitego filmu dla fanów M&A - "Pacific Rim". Obie produkcje są mega wypełnione po brzegi fanserwisem dla fanów kreskówek z Japonii. Widać, że Jordan jest prawdziwym fanem, a nie cynicznym dupkiem z Disneya, który udaje fana Goku, Naruto i fikcyjnych bohaterów.
