A few weeks ago, I bought a Cobweb Hens and Chicks plant.
It's been sitting on my windowsill and has been doing quite well, but it was definitely in need of a little TLC. Since it's a very hardy outdoor plant, I decided it was time to move it outside, where it can hopefully thrive and even flower.
I started looking for somewhere to plant it and remembered I had this broken decorative clay pot. Instead of throwing it away, I thought I'd give it a new purpose and bring it back to life.
Because the pot was broken and couldn't hold soil on its own, I decided to place a plastic plant pot inside it. I tried a few different sizes until...
Ta-da! I found the perfect fit.
I trimmed off the extra rim of the plastic pot so it would sit neatly inside the broken clay pot.
Next, I added some fresh soil.
Then I planted the Cobweb Hens and Chicks. I really like its name!
As you can see, it has one larger rosette in the centre with several smaller rosettes growing around it. When the plant is young, it is covered with fine, silky white hairs that looks like a spider's web, hence the name Cobweb Hens and Chicks.
Finally, I gave it a good watering and placed it in a corner of the garden.
Now the broken clay pot has a new lease of life instead of ending up in the bin, and it makes a lovely home for my little succulent.
