Hello to all hive users 🤗❤️🙏 Hope you all are healthy and doing great in your life🙂
A few years ago, our friends were typically neighborhood children of our own age or classmates from school; rarely did we befriend people outside those circles. However, with the rise of social media, people began forming friendships beyond their immediate social spheres. I recall that when Facebook was new, I—like many others—connected with friends from various countries. Today, this trend has grown significantly, and people are increasingly focusing on online friendships. If you were to ask someone how many real-life friends they have—people they interact with face-to-face or socialize with in person—they might name very few; yet, if asked about their online friends, they could list a great many. This is because online friendships have no limits; one can connect with countless people across the globe. Furthermore, with the advent of video calling, communication has become even more personal and engaging—making it an ideal way to connect.

Many people are introverts who prefer not to interact with large groups or feel shy about conversing; for them, online friendship can be a great option, allowing them to connect and chat with others. Similarly, those who are lonely—perhaps lacking friends in real life—can benefit from online friendships, as interacting with online companions can help alleviate their isolation. There are other advantages as well; for instance, if someone wishes to learn about a specific city in another country—perhaps because they plan to relocate there—having an online friend from that city can provide valuable insights into the location, the local atmosphere, and various other details that could prove extremely helpful.
While online friendships certainly have their benefits, they also come with significant downsides. A primary drawback is that focusing too heavily on online friendships can cause a person to drift away from the real world. This detachment often leads to a decline in self-confidence; true confidence is built through face-to-face interactions. Engaging in in-person conversations with various people significantly improves your communication skills, offering numerous advantages. Spending hours chatting with online friends while neglecting real-life social interaction is problematic and can erode one's self-confidence. It is essential to have friends in the real world because, in times of trouble, it is these friends who truly come to your aid. An online friend located miles away cannot help you in an emergency, whereas real-life friends certainly will.
Another point to consider is that online friendships are not always safe. Online fraud has become so prevalent these days that it often manifests through online friendships. Many scams originate on social media, and people often fall victim to them without even realizing it. You may have noticed highly attractive fake profiles on social media that draw people in; some individuals even initiate contact with these profiles, making them the most likely targets for fraud. The reality is that what is displayed on these profiles is rarely genuine, and the people behind them are often fraudsters looking for victims. The biggest challenge with online friendships is the difficulty of establishing trust, as we do not know the person in real life—to us, they are merely a profile and nothing more. Consequently, placing trust in such situations is risky.
In conclusion, there are significant differences between online and offline friendships. While we need both types of friendships, we must exercise greater caution with online connections compared to offline ones. That said, one often encounters people online who are genuinely good-natured and authentic, making them pleasant to talk to.
