Growth Requires a Little Healthy Friction

You stay inside your comfortable circle of ideas because it feels safe, and when you run into a view that challenges yours, you feel uneasy and a little defensive, so you move past it. You read mostly what confirms what you already think, and slowly your world gets smaller.

How dangerous it is to only listen to people who think like us. On the other hand, talking with and learning from people with different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences keeps the mind flexible. In that sense, I think growth comes from friction, and new and different ideas create the kind of friction that actually changes something.

So here my question for you today, what view different from your own will you make room for this week?

It is way too easy to just surround yourself with opinions that sound familiar. I need to actively look for some economic discussions that challenge my usual assumptions instead of scrolling past them.
