I know this may not be the best question to ask in a post, since most of you who see it are indeed eating your own dog food, meaning you're using the platform/ecosystem/blockchain on a regular basis.

I'm however mostly pointing the question out to our witnesses/devs/etc.

Isn't it a bit weird that most just sit behind the shadows and barely use the platform for social reasons?

I can understand some are very busy, leading a team of multiple people so they don't have the time to be active daily, there are however some I highly doubt they're doing much outside of that and they barely use the dapps/front-ends. It's a bit odd to me.

The only thing that makes sense is that they probably just get active when there's something to be earned rather than actually enjoying the existing things hive has to offer and the community.

Now I'm someone who does enjoy being active daily and hope this place turns into a better Reddit eventually, better than it is now but even better than the old Reddit where I mostly enjoyed my time being social online. If it was up to me I'd hire people to do the daily things I gotta do to make things run so I could spend more time just consuming content/shortform/other here and engaging with users as that's what mostly drew me to this place and what I mostly did in my first year of being active here.

Over time however I noticed some missing pieces that required me to step in and become a curator. It's probably no surprise to some of you as I have mentioned it time and time before that I like keeping things manual on this account, so you know whenever a vote is left it's been me reading or engaging with a piece of content/comment. Many opt for the other ways however.

Even at this point in time when I finally can do a lot of things myself with the help of AI and I'm struggling to keep things moving with the many projects I got running, I still make time for posts and comments and to manually curate things on different feeds/dapps/places.

Dunno the point of this post really, but I see a lot of people who come back and are all like "oh well I've been here active all along" and "not just cause there's something I'm interested in getting a piece of the pie from the current discussion", while there's been very little if any proof that they've been active on any chats/blockchain.

I also don't really understand some people who mainly sit in discords all day while they let their projects they believed in so much wither and die, even after having spent so much money from the collective Hive fund.

Probably just waiting for father time to erase the memories of their failures and hoping that when things turn around they'll be welcomed back to get some more of that juice that's flown into our ecosystem.

Dunno about you but I usually have a pretty good memory, if anything I think it's healthy to look around every now and then and wonder if you feel like some people still deserve your autovotes, witness votes, proposal votes, follows, attention, etc. If it feels like it's been too much words without substance in the past it's probably time to move on rather than keep being dragged behind or fall into the same pitfalls over and over again.

Being constantly active is also not easy however, doesn't matter what you say or actions you do, there's always and will always be a percentage that take it the wrong way or choose to do so. It's kind of the nature of censorship resistance/freedom of speech I suppose. Hopefully the wisdom of the crowd keeps being fair as majority stake over time, once that changes I'll probably won't be active here any longer.

I agree that being part of a community means actually using it and interacting with people. Being active, reading and commenting makes the platform feel much more alive.

The social aspects of hive are a bit lacking, they tend to be made up on discord. A lot of people have to deal with bigger things IRL seasonally also, but it would be nice if more people interacted on posts. There are various bots that do it and i don't know if it helps or just helps people act like bots. I think it's a discussion hive continues to need to have. Great post

I'd not actually heard that term before.

My personal best example of this is that I'm working on a page specially for helping artist be seen, and see each other. (with Claude code.) Currently in testing but hope to get it to a point I feel good sharing it.

I really like hive, my attendance is pretty inconsistent since I'm super busy sometimes and other times not.

I only presume that big accounts are all about bussiness, and they see Hive as an investment rather than a place to spend time. I still enjoy the banter, and I am active even if it is for my personal notes regarding Splinterlands and to read some posts. I do have many projects taking up all my time, AI included, but I am still enjoying Hive reading and curation at least once per day. Holidays excluded. Hi hi!

It does feel like some large accounts are on autopilot or putting forth minimal effort to contribute to the growth and evolution of Hive. I've always felt one thing Hive lacks is some cohesion when it comes to mapping out future growth. Decentralization is great in a lot of aspects but we all need to be moving in the same general direction if we want to grow and improve.

I have been wondering this myself recently too. Well sort of. I look at the list of Witnesses and see that I don't know most of them or some of them are just not active. And sure my witness account 'Witness4All" doesn't post, I do (not as often as I like too now though).

So how many Witnesses are getting auto votes for doing nothing except keeping a 15W mini pc running? Because that is truly what a Witness Node is for Hive, I know because mine is 6 inches away from my keyboard right now.

So I do wish there was a better way to pick witnesses, maybe votes only last 2 months and you can only vote for a specific witness inside a post from that witness. It could be abused but it would at least make the witness account post every so often? I don't have a good answer haha

Such a naturally appealing and intriguing post, @acidyo.

I must say I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve thought about this subject, and I think this "segregation" of the whales and witnesses from the rest of the users does more harm than good.

This certainly conveys an atmosphere of superiority regarding the hierarchy within the ecosystem (which we all know exists). Especially newbies, who don't yet fully understand how the things work around here.

We as a chain got into a rutt of sorts. What concerns me most is that we are not only waiting for the market to turn around in terms of price, we are waiting for something to turn around in terms of tech application on its own. why should it though? The mentality is out of whack. We dont support builders enough, we dont push for new tech, new ideas like other chains do that experiment. We are missing what we had early on when people were asking for new apps, SMTs, got excited when something new came around and whales would be the ones jumping on it. helped it take off. i noticed this first with Holozing when it came out. Even though you got some support, it wasnt nearly enough. Hive needs top witnesses, top investors pushing whatever new comes along, write about it, endorse it, use it. Put their names behind it. Theres reputation on this chain for a reason. If we dont get that, if the community ignores, rejects whats being built, then you might as well be building somewhere where that is not the case. You pick a chain because you expect to gain value from that community, not to have to look for a start outside of it. When was the last time anyone thats not us, coming from outside got any attention on Hive, tried to build something? The DHF might have created that mentality in ways as pressing the support button replaced actual support. You feel you did your part. And when some dont deliver anything for half a decade you just say, well they got the money, i did my part. Things ofc are changing for the better, but the hybernation from most of those that could reinvigorate the hope in the chain is concerning. It didnt used to be like this. We never settled just for maintenance. If youre not doing anything in this direction, are you actually here? Or are you just in maintenance mode yourself as a Hiver. A question many should ask themselves.

It's great that you're still actively posting, curating content, and interacting with the community; that gives us hope for the future. Maybe others don't know how to manage their time to devote themselves personally to their projects, have too much on their minds, or prefer to delegate responsibilities. In any case, I like being here, too; I enjoy writing and sharing ideas.

If rewards disappeared tomorrow, how many of us would still use it?

Maybe the real test of adoption isn’t how many people use your product — but how many would genuinely miss it if it disappeared.

I'd honestly love to see some social activity from the big names too, it would mean that they atleast care about what hive stands for. It will give us hope too, like I enjoy seeing you on my feed from tike to time. Maybe they don't like the social part of it, who knows? 🤷🏽‍♀️

It seems a ripe time to shake up the chain. Assessing our witness votes, dhf votes and action/inaction of projects in general. All key in my eyes. Doing this in a collective manner also would seem effective. There are witnesses outside of top 20 who put in real effort and clearly care about the chain still. While many in top 20 feel like ghosts or even openly have signaled they dont care.
I will join any effort to mix things up. 💪

I have no idea how witness work looks like. But I am also really surprised that some big users are not making any posts or comments. Even looking from just financial perspective if the Hive price is high they could earn a lot of dollars. And if Hive price is low they can earn a lot of Hive. So as far as I can see it is a win either way.

That's the best thing a content creator gets. Being read! I have witnessed, however, that there are content creators who do not honor the readers who leave comments on their posts. They rarely reply to any. Still, they receive a good amount of votes which I am sure are auto votesw.

Mr. @acido, although I’m relatively new here, I didn’t experience that boom period when, as some have told me, people made a living on Hive as if it were a great job—and could even buy a new cell phone—but I think what you’re saying is very important, since human warmth is needed today more than ever, and learning from one another helps build relationships that create one big family; and, in my opinion, the more people there are, the more likely it is that large companies will be encouraged to invest here.

This is a thought provoking post but, honestly, I find it sad. I am an old user and have witnessed that crowd here and those massive activities. I agree if anyone who was sharing 1000 times in the past good times can atleast share one time a day to keep their attatchment with the ecosystem. This is called loyalty.

It feels like a lot of the big accounts have went into hibernation. I wonder how many of them even still pay attention. It's possible they made bank in other cryptos and totally forgot about their HIVE bags. Wouldn't that be a problem to have!?

I think about this a lot too; I wish those who have a lot of influence here in Hive would dedicate more time to it. That's why I'm excited that you, despite having other commitments, are so active; it gives me hope. I think you're very concerned about Hive and want it to work, and I appreciate that, as does the Hispanic community. Perhaps the others are too busy.
