What a day

Yesterday, what started out as a day off from my usual tasks to test local image generation models (which ended up working just fine, qwen image generation only takes roughly 1.5 minutes per image on my gpu to create quite stunning artwork, at least when Claude prompts it), to figuring out what exactly was my issue with the GPU.

Thing is, I've tried figuring out the issue in the past, downloaded a bunch of GPU benchmarking tools and other software to test it in the past when I had weird game crashes on games that'd require a lot of GPU process such as Cyberpunk and/or GTA5 remastered. It kind of put me off for a while as I wasn't able to record those gameplays or stream properly because even with less resource intensive games there'd be these weird artifacts popping up and sometimes some weird linebreaks from certain models in games that'd end up making it unplayable.

Either way, Claude figured out what exactly was wrong last night as I mentioned in the post and figured out a fix for all software, so in the near future I'll be retrying those games to see if they stop crashing/bugging out which will make it easier for me to stream reliably in the future.

Unfortunately it's been over 3 years since I've purchased the GPU, but some people in the reddit thread mentioned that this is a hidden fault so maybe I can still check if they'd be able to replace it.

Anyway, the reddit post did quite well and was top of reddit's hot section for a while there on the official claude subreddit, so that was quite exciting.

Some there also asked me to place the guard on github so others with similar issues could test it out, and according to comments there were a few who saw the post and had similar issues.

Claude seems quite good with these kind of things, only wish I had had it test my hardware a bit sooner before the warranty expired. At current markets with prices for GPU/RAM soaring, I won't be thinking about buying something new anytime soon, so hopefully this is something that came broken and has stayed limited rather than degrading further over time. If anything I'll be able to know now if it's becoming worse.

    It is not just Claude, GitHub Copilot with Visual Studio Code is also great at this kind of stuff, it helped me diagnose my new Dell laptop and figure out what was wrong with it.

    Fortunately I was able to return mine...

    It really is amazing how well claude can build things and test things. It's also really good at helping figure out why games aren't working, what broke and finding the info on how to fix it. Which is awesome for me who sometimes gets nostalgic for games I played 20 years ago and really struggles to know how to make em work on a modern pc.

    I think you should told them earlier like after 3 years is difficult. Kindly see your warranty papers to see if you can bcz my GPU warranty was 3 years. I bought Asus GPU for my brother back in 2023 & it's warranty was 3 years covering manufacturing defect & 2 things more.

    Quite a splash made with the VRAM guard fix which probable will help many others as well. This show the power of communities and people sharing their problems, but also solutions.

    I hope that your computer will get better soon and you will be able to play those games.

    Yesterday something weird happend. My keyboard froze/stopped working. After I restarted PC it worked again. I believe that this was the first time this happened. This scared me quite a bit. At the moment I much prefer to to use money on things like buying Hive or framing my current piece. So buying a new keyboard or let alone fixing pc/ buying new pc is not within my budget right now. I hope that my current set up will serve me a few more years at very least.

    I heard great things about current version of Cyberpunk(And not so great about its launch...) But I don't play 1 person games. But speaking about great games I believe that I already recommended Disco Elysium. Dragon age origins is another masterpiece every gamer should play at least once. In my opinion the rest of dragon age games are far worse but DAO is beyond awesome.
