Thanks to AI and sophisticated methods to cheat written exams, I'm anticipating this will be the direction classrooms would be heading to combat cheating.
I dreaded these types of exams because performance anxiety is real. You can remember all the things you should be able to answer but lose it all when the moment you actually need it arrives. A written exam lets you skip the questions and rethink while an oral exam puts you in constant boiling water.
The downside includes teachers spending more time evaluating students during oral exams. Written exams require everyone getting handed out test papers and are expected to finish within a time period. But oral exams would require the examiners to pay attention per student. It's like using more resources in the process of preventing the possibility of cheating.
A hybrid of written and oral exam will likely a realistic scenario. But what do these changes really mean for those already graduated from the basic educational system? A younger generation that learned things differently than their seniors.
If AI can't be stopped, I'm expecting an evergreen issue for the future lessening the impact of AI on moral integrity and preserving human dignity or hard working virtues.
Take AI out of the equation, and you'll probably see a drastic drop in quality of people's written outputs. Suddenly, people stopped being proficient at grammar or adept at a field they have no qualified expertise in.
And maybe that's exactly what our education system needs to adapt in the age of AI.
Thanks for your time.
