Weston Beach
I ended this post saying I would make a separate post about my walk to the beach, so here it is. I exited The Donkey Sanctuary via the gates at the side of the cafe, which is where the recommended path begins. The walk itself is a couple of miles through lush bush and untouched nature winding through unkempt shrubs, trees, grasslands and even a stream.
There is also a sort of butterfly garden, or something, which wasn't officially open. It looks like something that would be fun for kids when open. Perhaps there are no butterflies this season due to how dry everything has been. I did spot a lot of wild berries though. They did well. Probably because the stream delivered water to them despite the lack of rain. Who knows.
Towards the cliff, someone had parked a Land Rover. There was nobody else in sight, or in the vehicle, so I assumed they'd parked it there and gone down to the beach. There was a man that suddenly materialised, as if by magic, then hurried past me so fast that I didn't even get the chance to say hello. He also flew down the 100 steps like it was nothing. The gentleman looked in his 60's so moving like that was quite impressive.
When I got down to the beach myself, after struggling down the steps, the man was nowhere to be found. There are some cabins at the beach, so perhaps he actually lives in one of them. One of the cabins had clothes hanging on a line, so that suggested someone was there. It would make sense that, if he did indeed live there, he'd be able to fly up and down the steps in that manner. He'd have done it so many times.
And what a picturesque life he must live, if he indeed lives there. An isolated one at that. I don't think there's any electricity or pipe-borne in that cabin. I didn't even notice a solar panel or well. I did, however, notice a chimney.
After a while some people showed up with their dogs and also relaxed on the beach for a while. Some of them appeared to have arrived via another path, or from a distant part of the beach. I read somewhere, after the fact, that one half of the beach is actually a naturist section. I didn't seen anyone in their birthday suits though :)
It's a pebble beach, so the water is remarkably clean. In fact, this beach, as well as the one in a fishing village I visited the following day, have the cleanest water I've ever seen in England.
