Muy buenos días hivers, viajeros, amantes de las aventuras. Vengo a contarles que el viernes pasado tuve un día muy especial, después de casi 7 años en Santiago de Chile y 6 inviernos, finalmente fui a hacer el tradicional paseo de conocer la nieve, aunque en mi país hace muchos años atrás tuve la fortuna de verla en Mérida.
Good morning, winter lovers, travelers, and adventure seekers. I’m here to tell you that last Friday was a very special day for me. After nearly 7 years in Santiago, Chile—and 6 winters—I finally went on the traditional trip to see the snow, even though I was lucky enough to see it many years ago in Mérida, back in my home country.
Realmente no era un paseo que me entusiasmara mucho, pues el frío suele ser duro para mi. Sin embargo hay que vivir bonito y aprovechar las oportunidades que se nos presenten. Ese viernes me paré muy temprano junto a mi amiga y nos fuimos al punto de encuentro con el grupo y la van que nos llevaría al paseo.
It wasn't really a trip I was very excited about, since the cold is usually tough on me. However, you have to live life to the fullest and take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. That Friday, I got up very early with my friend, and we headed to the meeting point to join the group and the van that would take us on the trip.
A las 6 de la mañana ya estábamos en la ruta, recibiendo las indicaciones y las recomendaciones, junto a mi amiga decidimos no subir al parque pero si quedarnos en el pueblo llamado Farellones. La primera parada fue en el centro de equipamiento y ropa necesaria para estar en la nieve, ese día estaríamos a -2° y -6°. Mi abrigo es gigante y bastante abrigado así que solo renté los lentes para protegerme del reflejo del sol en la nieve y las botas especiales porque las zapatillas deportivas definitivamente no son aptas.
At 6 a.m. we were already on the road, getting directions and recommendations. My friend and I decided not to go up to the park but to stay in the town called Farellones. Our first stop was at the rental shop for the gear and clothing needed for the snow; that day, temperatures would range from -2° to -6°. My coat is huge and quite warm, so I just rented goggles to protect my eyes from the sun’s glare off the snow and special boots, since sneakers definitely aren’t suitable.
Había muchas ropas coloridas y bonitas, como también elementos para esquiar y demás deportes especiales para la nieve. Una vez equipado todo el grupo seguimos, emprendimos el camino de 2 hrs casi para Farellones, en una montaña bastante empinada con muchas curvas, pero yo aproveche de dormir.
There were lots of colorful and pretty clothes, as well as gear for skiing and other snow sports. Once the whole group was geared up, we set off on the nearly 2-hour hike to Farellones, up a fairly steep mountain with lots of curves, but I took the opportunity to sleep.
Finalmente nos dejaron en la entrada del pueblo, desde que llegamos estuvimos rodeados de nieve, fue increíble la primera vista, pude admirar, reflexionar y agradecer la oportunidad de vivir la experiencia. Subimos en unos 10 min por unas escaleras hasta la primera parte del pueblo que es un como plano lleno de nieve donde puedes observar al horizonte a Santiago y sus alrededores casi totalmente nevado.
Finally, they dropped us off at the entrance to the village. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by snow. The first view was incredible; I was able to take it all in, reflect, and be grateful for the opportunity to have this experience. We climbed a set of stairs for about 10 minutes to the first part of the village, which is a sort of flat, snow-covered area where you can see Santiago and its surroundings on the horizon, almost entirely covered in snow.
Subimos lento, apreciando el paisaje pero también cuidándonos de no caer y respirando de forma consciente porque el frío y la altura suelen restar oxígeno. Al llegar nos recibió la inmensidad de la creación nevada, a donde mires estaba lleno de nieve, también de personas turistas y citadinos que van a practicar los deportes y otros como nosotros que van solo a ver, conocer disfrutar de un buen chocolate caliente o una crema de verduras de la temporada.
We climbed slowly, taking in the scenery but also being careful not to fall and breathing consciously, since the cold and the altitude tend to reduce oxygen levels. When we arrived, we were greeted by the vastness of the snow-covered landscape; everywhere you looked was covered in snow, as well as tourists and city dwellers who had come to play sports, and others like us who were there just to look around, explore, and enjoy a good hot chocolate or a seasonal vegetable soup.
Después de caminar bastante, apreciar el paisaje nos sentamos un rato a conversar de la vida, aproveche de hacer una lectura de cartas para mi amiga, aprovechando que la energía estaba fresca y de disfrute. Compartimos los lunches que cada una llevó, entre frutas, pan y te.
After walking quite a bit and taking in the scenery, we sat down for a while to talk about life. I took the opportunity to do a card reading for my friend, taking advantage of the fresh, joyful energy in the air. We shared the lunches we’d each brought—fruit, bread, and tea.
Finalmente nos ubicamos en un lugar donde pudimos hacer el ángel de nieve y el muñeco con la canción respectiva de “ y si hacemos un muñeco”. A las 3 de la tarde comenzamos el descenso para encontrarnos con el resto de grupo para volver a Santiago, en ese momento estaba algo nublado, más frío, empezando la nevada leve.
Finally, we found a spot where we could make a snow angel and a snowman while singing the song “What If We Make a Snowman?” At 3:00 p.m., we began our descent to meet up with the rest of the group and head back to Santiago. By then, it was somewhat cloudy, colder, and a light snow had begun to fall.
Realmente fue un paseo encantador, relajante que todos si tienen la oportunidad vivanlo, si les gusta los deportes extremos los de la nieve les da un extra esfuerzo para ejercitarse con gusto. It really was a lovely, relaxing outing that everyone should experience if they get the chance. If you like extreme sports, snow sports give you that extra push to exercise with enthusiasm.
