I was in my room reflecting after my night prayer before sleeping and right there I heard my name being called in a very familiar voice that seems to be like mine. The only difference was that it was soft and tiny with a bit of uncertainty in it, than now that i sound very strong, thick and confident in voice.
I slowly stood up from my bed trying to be sure I wasn't hallucinating, carefully taking my steps one after the other, not really different from tiptoeing jus to be sure that I wasn't just assuming the sound of my name I'm hearing. Upon opening my room door, I saw a small tender figure before me, with the same face as mine when I was young, innocent and naive, calm and beautiful and just when I was about to run off, she spoke softly and gently, "Senior Sis, do not be scared. I just want to have a conversation with you based on what you've experienced so far because I don't want to make the same mistakes and errors you committed while becoming an adult."
We sat down, and I started to reflect on what exactly to tell her, whether to advise, warn or encourage her, because truly I can't allow her to make some mistakes I made again. It's easy to encourage and feel encouraged to keep going and focusing on one's dreams but it's very hard at times not falling into the same pit as the predecessors.
So, I started by strictly warning her. "In all you do little sis, never put anyone first before your happiness except God. Do not allow anyone to feel entitled to you, what you have or how you live your life. Not religion, not relationships or even love or matters of the heart. You cannot be everyone's friends, not every friend can be your real friends and not everyone you love can genuinely love you back. Most importantly, humans will always be humans, so always expect the unexpected".
"When you know these things and live by them, it will help you to treat yourself better and not expect to be treated better because you treated them so well. It will help you to know when to push further with people and when to let things be and most importantly not to feel too hurt when those you placed so high in your life showcase themselves to be low-level and unworthy of your love".
Above all, keep chasing your dream and don't be discouraged just because it's not working out or because others are getting it right while you're not especially in the aspect of choosing your career then you opt for what you think will work as a substitute because you don't want to waste time. You will regret it later on in life.
I wish you all the best in life little me and take good care of yourself". We exchanged pleasant smiles to one another and just the she began walking through the door until I lost sight of her. If only I could have a guide like this then my adulthood could have been more fulfilling than this but all the same, it's part of life experiences and the mystery of time where the past can't be changed but used as a means of correcting the future.
