La Reina del Sur is one of the series I’ve always loved. I try to avoid watching it because I get obsessed—I just can't stop binge-watching episode after episode until I finish it. Although the show is quite intense when it comes to violence, sexual content, and crime, it hooks you from the very moment you start watching. I’m sharing this review because a new season is coming up, and while I’m not yet sure if I’ll watch it, I wanted to share my thoughts on the series.
However, I will tell you a little about what it is all about.
The story begins in Mexico, specifically in Culiacán. Teresa, the protagonist, receives a call informing her that her boyfriend—her güero—has been killed, forcing her to flee immediately. She turns to Epifanio Vargas—who will eventually become her worst enemy—for help. Thanks to him, she builds a new life, though it is far from perfect; there is always a darker side to things. She finds work at a bar, where she meets her best friend, Fátima. And the man with whom she becomes romantically involved? Santiago Fisterra. He is a smuggler, and she assists him on his runs. However, he dies during the course of the season, while Teresa survives and is sent to prison.
This is just the first season; it features drama, violence, romance, and many deaths that will transform Teresa into one of the most feared and powerful drug traffickers in South America.
This crime drama television series was produced by Telemundo Global Studios. It had a substantial budget, which contributed to the telenovela's great success. It featured major actors like Kate del Castillo, who underwent a transformation as the series progressed—altering her physical appearance and delivering an outstanding performance as the character throughout every season.
Even though the first and second seasons were the best—why?
It had a bit more of a telenovela feel—a good telenovela, mind you. The intro was really catchy; I think anyone who watched it knows the song and waits for it to finish.
From the very beginning, we were intrigued by what would happen to Teresa—whether she would go to prison and who would help her get out. It was about her personality, her way of acting and being, and everything she went through starting from the first episode. The show was filmed in various locations across Mexico and Europe, which really drew people's attention. And something I loved was the chemistry she had with her friend Oleg, the Russian. I spent the whole season hoping something would happen between them. You’ll see what I mean when you watch it.
Although I watched the entire third season, it didn't live up to my expectations; it was very long and a bit hollow, and the actor playing Oleg was replaced due to health issues. That came as a shock to all the show's fans; however, they did shift the focus away from the drug storyline toward a different theme. I actually liked that aspect—they conveyed a different message and took a new direction.
If I said I wasn't going to watch the fourth season, I’d be lying, but I’ll watch it without high expectations. I love watching the performances of Kate del Castillo and Humberto Zurita; I know they won't let me down when it comes to acting. I realize the focus might shift more toward the protagonist's daughter. But anyway, I’ll watch it and then write another review. Thanks for reading to the end. La Reina del Sur es una de las series que más me gustaba y aún me sigue gustando. Trato de no verla porque me obsesiono, y no paro de ver capítulo por capítulo hasta que termine. Aunque es una serie un poco pasada de tono a nivel de violencia, sexual y crímenes, engancha desde el momento en que la ves. Comparto esta reseña porque viene una nueva temporada y aún no sé si la veré. Pero quiero dar mi opinión acerca de la serie.
Sin embargo, le diré de qué trata un poco.
La historia comienza en México, especialmente en Culiacán. Teresa, la protagonista, recibe una llamada. Le dicen que su güero ha muerto. Por lo que debe huir y salir corriendo. Pide ayuda a Epifanio Vargas, el que se convertirá en su peor enemigo. Interpretado por Humberto Zurita, esta la hace crear una nueva vida, pero no todo es color de rosa; siempre hay un trasfondo. Ahí trabaja en un bar y conoce a su mejor amiga, Fátima. ¿Y a un hombre con qué se relaciona íntimamente? Sí, Santiago Fisterra. Él es un contrabandista y ella lo ayuda en sus viajes. Sin embargo, en toda esta temporada él muere, pero Teresa queda viva y es enviada a la prisión.
Esta es solo la primera temporada; hay drama, violencia, amores y muchas muertes, que harán transformar a Teresa en una de las más temidas y poderosas narcotraficantes de Suramérica..
Esta serie de televisión de drama criminal fue producida por Telemundo Global Studios. Contó con un presupuesto bastante amplio; por esto la telenovela tuvo tanto éxito. Además de grandes actores como Kate del Castillo, esta actriz se fue transformando a medida que avanzaba la TELENOVELA. Su físico o apariencia lo iba transformando; interpretó demasiado bien al personaje. En todas las temporadas
Aunque la primera y segunda temporada fueron las mejores, ¿por qué?
Tenía un poco más la ambientación de telenovela; una buena telenovela, eso sí. La intro era muy pegajosa; creo que todo el que la vio se sabe la canción y espera que termine
Nos intrigó desde un comienzo qué pasaría con Teresa, si iría a prisión, quién la iba a ayudar a salir de allí. Su personalidad, su forma de actuar y de ser, entre todo lo que le pasaba desde el capítulo uno. Fue una telenovela que se grabó en varias partes de México y Europa, así que esto llamaba mucho la atención. Y algo que me encantaba era la química que tenía con su amigo Oleg, el ruso. Esperaba toda la temporada que entre ellos pasara algo. Cuando la mires, te darás cuenta.
La tercera temporada, aunque la vi completa, no cumplió mis expectativas; fue muy larga y un poco vacía y cambiaron al personaje que hacía Oleg por problemas de salud. Así que fue un choque para todos los fanáticos de la serie; sin embargo, aquí cambiaron un poco el tema de la droga por otro tema. Esta parte sí me gustó: llevaron otro mensaje, apostaron por otro tema
Si les digo que no voy a ver la cuarta temporada, les mentiría, pero la veré sin muchas expectativas. Amo ver la actuación de Kate del Castillo y Humberto Zurita. Sé que no me van a defraudar en tema de actuación. Sé que quizás se van a enfocar más en la hija de la protagonista. Pero bueno, la veré y luego haré otra reseña.
