Then my mom peeled the vegetables. She made the soup using a fish head and some chicken wings; while she was cooking, we chatted about various things and had some coffee. Then it was time for lunch. The soup turned out delicious; honestly, I had never made fish soup before—I usually used chicken or meat—though I had tasted it, especially during a trip I took to Cumaná. I loved it; everything there was made with fish. I love soup with bread—it’s an essential accompaniment—so I took some stale bread from my mom’s fridge (hahaha), popped it in the microwave, and voilà—it turned out great. My mom, my husband, and I sat down to eat; my dad was with the man who takes care of the garden.
