I recently watched a movie—The Great Gilly Hopkins, which I’m going to introduce to you now—while my husband was looking for something to watch. We can spend hours searching for a series or something on TV, and it’s rare for us to settle on something in just five minutes, so this one caught our eye.

The Great Gilly Hopkins Let’s talk about Gilly, a girl—
apparently twelve years old—who wants one thing more than anything else: to move in with her mother in San Francisco. There was a problem, however: her mother had clearly abandoned her or given her up for adoption right after she was born. Naturally, Gilly didn't know this, so she spent her childhood and early teens moving from one foster home to another. She was intelligent, and she used that smarts to stir up trouble with her foster parents, hoping they would send her straight to live with her real mother.

Although Trotter wanted to care for Gilly, the girl initially arrived acting arrogant and hateful. However, the woman, the boy, and the blind man living with Trotter eventually won the girl's heart and transformed her for the better, changing both her home life and the way she interacted with others.

Eventually, the girl's grandmother arrived and tried to take her away, claiming to the adoption agency that the girl was living in poor conditions and being made to work. Furthermore, the girl had previously—out of spite—sent a letter to the agency saying nasty, hurtful things about her guardian, so the grandmother already had the upper hand. The girl no longer wanted to leave and suffered greatly, but Mrs. Trotter suffered even more; she adored the girl like a daughter, gave her good advice, and loved her dearly. In the end, the girl met her mother and realized that her mother didn't want her—that she had only come to ask for money from the grandmother. So, the girl returned to the foster home, heartbroken. Mrs. Trotter, with all her wisdom, helped her understand that her grandmother needed her, that they would spend Thanksgiving together as a family, and that she would never forget her.
Llegó en un momento la abuela de la chica y se la quiso llevar, alegando en la agencia de adopciones que vivía en un mal estado y que la ponían a trabajar; además, ya la chica anteriormente, por maldad, mandó una carta a la agencia diciendo cosas malas y feas de la persona a cargo, así que ya había terreno ganado para su abuela. Ella ya no se quería ir y sufrió mucho, pero más la señora Trotter, que la adoraba como una hija, le daba buenos consejos y la amaba tanto. I really liked this story; it was lovely and gave me food for thought. If you enjoy this kind of movie, I recommend it.
