me devora.

Hello, fellow literary enthusiasts. Today, I feel that—in addition to it being a Monday for poetry—it should also be a Monday for memories. Starting today, I will be sharing a series of poems from when I first began writing in this genre, back when poetry first started to flood my very being. I am publishing them here for the first time; these are "virgin" poems—pieces that have only ever been touched by my own hand, long ago. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. They all belong to a notebook titled City Log (Bitácora de ciudad). From now on, then, these will be Mondays for both poetry and remembrance. Greetings, and have a happy Monday.
Like an idle void within sanity—
a temptation for the waters to mock the vastness—
I fill my damp embers with small sharks.
They dwell in the depths of the realm I hold captive,
alongside other inert bodies I managed to ensnare—
agonizing in their pleasure, a temptation to share myself—
they have become a part of me;
I set them to the task of feeding,
while fresh, youthful feet trace furrows across the foam-flecked vault.
At times, I sense the continuity of secondary protections— a carefully conjured delight— and I continue to exist like a maritime plain reflected in the gaze of an admiral, who cut through the transparency, laid siege to the breeze, urged me to shift my perspective, turned his gaze inward, and, in the twilight of a sailing afternoon, gathers the riches I cast aside.
Yet, my amphora is infinite.
Long-drowned questions remain,
lingering as a safeguard for silence,
or perhaps as a Versailles-like love—a love that has been beheaded.
I catch only a glimpse of the night’s presence,
its silent expansion,
and the stirrings of a city that lives, indifferent to my fate—or my death. She approaches, undone—her feet remain planted on the ground—
and, like a devoted kleptomaniac of my finest portions,
she devours me.
