A pleasant afternoon, fellow Hivers🌼! This afternoon, I’m excited to share another simple Filipino food creation that turned an old Cardava banana into a deliciously cold and refreshing treat!

My family had some Cardava bananas, a local Filipino variety that was already getting old and soft. Usually we just boil them in water and eat them with ginamos/bagoong but we want something cold. So instead of letting them spoil and go to waste, I decided to turn them into a cold and filling Filipino dessert Saging Con Yelo inspired by Mais Con Yelo!

The ingredients were simple, cardava bananas, sago, brown sugar, evaporated milk, and plenty of crushed ice.

First, I cooked the sago until it was ready. Separately, I cooked the minced Cardava bananas with brown sugar, giving them that sweet and delicious flavor. After that, I mixed the sweet bananas and sago together and waited for them to cool down. You definitely can’t have a hot dessert!

And then came the best part, the assembly of the ingredients😋!
All you need is a mug or a bowl. Fill it with crushed ice, add the sweet banana and sago mixture, put in some more ice, and finally pour the evaporated milk over everything. Take note, don’t put too much ice or it will make the sweet flavor bland🥛🧊.
And there you have it, a deliciously cold, sweet, and filling Saging Con Yelo treat🍌❄️.
It is amazing how we can turn ingredients that might otherwise go to waste into something enjoyable. A simple old banana, a little creativity, and a few ingredients can make a refreshing Filipino-style dessert perfect for a hot afternoon! And it’s so amusing to think how we Filipinos have that sweet tooth💛

Have you ever tried Saging Con Yelo before? I hope everyone has a good afternoon. Bye😄!
