@emiliorios made an extraordinary post about: It is possible to regain trust! along with another statement: People can change! and I thought it appropriate to give my opinion on the matter.
It's an age-old saying that trust is the foundation of every human relationship, and once it's betrayed, it's like spilling water from a glass—it's impossible to collect it intact; or like a glass shattered into a thousand pieces—it's impossible to glue it back together perfectly.
However, it's also an age-old saying that we all, as human beings, make mistakes, because the only perfect being is God our Lord, the only infallible one. While we, in addition to making mistakes, have the right to repent and also to acknowledge and correct them; we all have the right to a second chance and to demonstrate that we are truly capable of change.
However, this change in behavior aimed at regaining trust is not based solely on empty words and promises; it must be demonstrated with concrete, real, and consistent actions. The person who has failed must understand that regaining trust is not automatic; it requires concrete actions and sufficient patience until the other party feels secure enough to trust again.
Another crucial point is that not everyone deserves to be trusted again. This privilege is not granted to everyone; many people mistakenly believe that simply saying "I'm going to change" or "I promise that..." is enough to regain credibility and, consequently, the other person's trust. Nothing could be further from the truth.
It is crucial to reiterate that trust is not regained with words alone; it requires real, clear, consistent, and consequential actions. The other party only considers these actions effective when they feel safe, valued, and respected.

They had been dating since they were 12 years old, starting high school together. They graduated together, entered university together, and also graduated together with degrees in psychology.

Adrián began to complain that Diana wasn't committed enough to the housework and that he found it distressing to see a messy house, since he had been raised very differently.
Diana maintained that in her home, both her mother and father were responsible for keeping the house tidy and shared the household chores, since, like them, they were both professionals and worked. They also shared childcare, so she didn't understand why Adrián considered that domestic role and childcare to be solely the woman's responsibility.

The distance between Adrián and Diana grew, and with it, Adrián's frequent absences from the house and his late arrivals, while Diana remained at home caring for the children and tending to the household after her workday. Diana soon realized what was really happening; she caught him red-handed at a fast-food restaurant, very affectionate with the French woman, his new "co-worker."
For Diana, this was the worst tragedy of her life, since in 12 years of dating and 6 years of marriage, Adrián had never given her any reason to be jealous of him with another woman because he had only ever had eyes for her. The breakup after this incident was immediate, and even as a psychologist, Diana sought therapeutic support from a colleague during what she considered the worst moment of her life.
If I remember correctly, this separation only lasted six months, since Diana, after therapy with another psychologist colleague, considered that the best thing for a couple was to be emotionally interdependent, that is, not to depend emotionally on each other, nor to indulge in emotional attachment.
On the contrary, it's important that each partner maintains their own identity, their own space, their own social circle, and their own personal goals without this interfering with the deep emotional connection they share as a couple. I think that her behavior with Adrián, after internalizing this (I should clarify that she knew this academically, but studying it is one thing, and living it is quite another), changed radically, and Adrián not only noticed this change but also reflected on it.
Diana not only stopped being the suffering woman who stayed home crying over her husband's infidelity, but she became an empowered woman who looked beyond the causes of that infidelity and sought to change herself from within so that everything on the outside would also change, including Adrián's attitude.
Adrián returned to Diana, showing her that he had ended the relationship with the French woman and emphasizing that it was something that should never have happened, as it was a relationship that didn't make him happy and left a deep void in his soul. Of course, Adrián had to prove what he said with decisive, consistent, persevering actions that were coherent with what he had expressed for a long time.
He also had to change other things or paradigms he had always held within the relationship, including the idea that housework and childcare were solely the woman's responsibility. And he truly changed, and I can attest to this because I witness it firsthand.
Here, there was a genuine desire for change and to rectify past mistakes. Based on the experience of my friends and compadres Diana and Adrián, I can assure you that yes, relationships do become much stronger after infidelity, but this isn't a matter of just words and empty promises. It's about demonstrating it with real actions, patience, and consistent dedication, since the other person doesn't have an automatic reset button to regain trust until they feel, as I said before, secure, valued, and respected.
I should also mention that the story is completely true, although the names have been slightly changed; a true story of a great love between a couple who, after such infidelity, were happy without any significant problems, until Diana's death in 2020 separated them after she lost her battle with the devastating uterine cancer.
This concludes my reflection on the topic addressed by my friend emilioríos, always so insightful in his excellent posts. I'm pleased to invite @anasuleidy and @emily2021 to share their opinions on this; I know they will be very valuable.
