Hello, lovely family! It’s a pleasure to greet you all—I hope you’re doing very well. Today, I’m sharing a new sewing project: we’ll be making a men’s bow tie. A friend of mine asked me to make one for him because he had lost his, and since there was some fabric left over from his shirt, we decided to put it to good use.

We begin by cutting out the necessary pieces. In this case, since the bow tie is double-layered, we will be cutting each piece in duplicate: two for the base of the bow tie and two for the smaller top piece. There is also a rectangular piece that serves as the center connector, as well as the full-length strap that allows the bow tie to be attached to the shirt.

The next step is to pin the pieces together and sew them, leaving an opening in each one—except for the point where the bow joins the ribbon; this applies only to the base rectangular pieces—and then turn them right-side out.

I am finishing up sewing the pieces, which I have now turned right-side out. Next, I will press each one using an iron set to the medium (cotton) heat setting. Then, I will sew the ribbon piece, and finally, I will use an invisible stitch to close the opening on the base pieces of the bow tie.

Next, we measure the width of the ribbon and determine the desired length for the hook-and-loop fastener (Velcro); I used a piece measuring 4 cm long by 2 cm wide. We then sew both parts of the fastener—one on the top and one on the bottom—using a straight stitch. We gather the pieces of the bow at the center using a needle and thread so they can be joined together, and then we sew on the center band of the bow. We insert the bow first, and then sew the center band in place along with the ribbon.
