This weeks Ladies of Hive had two questions I'm glad I got to answer.
If you had the time and could take an educational course on anything, what would you study and how would you use the knowledge gained?
two things come to mine. 1- getting to do an immersive experience with learning American sign language (ASL). Partly because I work with kids with disabilities which can include folks with hearing loss as well as folks who don't speak vocally which sometimes can include communicate via sign language.
I'd use competence in ASL to be better at my work, as well as to convince my mom to learn it since she's getting a bit deaf. Plus we could than talk during movies/shows without annoying my dad. Plus sign language is just cool.
I've been learning a little via youtube videos and an app called livango. But mostly it's lead me to learn so far is to sign my name via fingerspelling and some greetings and thank you. Having some thing more intense and structured than what I'm doing would really help me learn more.
https://www.lifeprint.com/asl101/topics/wallpaper1.htm#gsc.tab=02- Get a masters or PHD in one of many things. I'm currently considering getting a masters in speech language pathology, which would mean helping folks with anything speech related gain ground in communication. This could mean helping people with a stutter overcome it, helping people regain speech after a brain injury or what I'd likely focus on is autistic children. This might mean helping them to learn how to use speech devices, pecs, or learn to speak depending on what would work best with the client.

exemple of AAC device,
The biggest thing keeping me from that is the roughly 11 grand in debt I still gotta finish paying off from getting my psychology degree.
If/when I get this Masters degree I'd work with kids with speech delays and help them gain communication skills that would make a huge difference for them. In my line of work as a support worker I have seen how much of a difference a kid having the ability to say their wants and say no makes is huge. And I want to have a part in making that positive change in a kids life.
That said, if I could spend endless money on education I'd be tempted to become an occupational therapist. It'd mean at least 6 years of school which is why I'm not really considering it even if I think it'd be a really cool path to go down. Occupational therapists work with people to find ways to increase their quality of life either by working with to develop skills or acquire tools that fill the gap their disabilities/injuries create. This could mean working with someone with a physical disabilities to figure out ways to do hygiene tasks or get dressed, or how to go up stairs safely. It could also mean helping them find hobbies, or adapting something about a hobby to their current abilities.
So yeah, something in disability services making it so I can help people live life to the fullest.
The second question asked by LOH is
What is your favorite colour? Describe how it makes you feel when you view it or are around it.
And honestly, I don't think I have one. In art I love doing blues and orange cause they make my brain happy. And I like blue jeans, and blue jean in general. But I also love being outside surrounded by greenery. And the red of flowers and a sunset, or strawberries. I like colour :) I also like black. The Rich purple of a rose or dark tulip, or one of my favorite shirts. I'm honestly not sure how I'm supposed to pick one?!? Even browns can be delightful, I'm sitting at a wooden table with an lovely honey brown colour, or the rich dark of earth, or the comforting brown of terracotta.
Gimme all the colours.
