It seems that, in the distance, something is lurking amongst the shadows cast by a dim light of unknown origin.

Twilight reigns in this place that ought to be pure light. that light which floods our hearts, which reveals the truth of things, of life itself. And yet loneliness makes itself felt; or so it seems, as I walk alone amongst unused pews, through deserted aisles, and in the air where no sacred words are spoken.
A sensation runs through my body when I look out from the back at the whole scene, as if far ahead, where the figures are hidden, something dwells amongst the materials of which they are made. I can sense the gazes as if from behind glass, a mirror or a stained-glass window; yet, on looking closely, I see that something is out of the ordinary.
Their shapes, their colours, their creation do not resemble those of a sculptor carving stone or wood, but rather a collection of materials of unknown and untraceable origin.
As I draw nearer in the darkness of the church, I sense more eyes watching me, even though no one there is speaking. Those eyes penetrate my mind and make me see how these figures slowly intermingle amongst themselves. They are dark without being illuminated, as if they were feeding on the shadows and coming back to life.
Perhaps I am hallucinating and it has nothing to do with the fact that the entire set is made from recycled materials. Or could it be that the origin of these items retains some dark energy, the power of which is enhanced by the shadows?
No one is there to see what I see; they move subtly amongst the folds of their garments or attire, and shadows begin to emerge from them as if that dark life were taking hold during the twilight hours of the eternal realm.
I feel them all around me; they move very quickly, as if carried by a strong wind, a sensation I’ve felt before when they come down to take the next to die. I don’t know if they know I can see or sense them, but they brush past me with gentle wariness.
I see more with my eyes closed than open; a shiver runs through my body as more and more of them come towards me. It’s not that they want to take me away; it’s that they see what I carry within me. They draw near, and when they do, something flings them far away, as if they were colliding with a shield I possess.
I think they’ve realised that I recognise them, and I know they come from the other side, but they hide within what were once objects and are now merely fragments of materials. Elements that now form figures or characters alluding to saints, to light and eternity. There they hide within those materials whose origin nobody knows. Remnants of various pieces, discarded by many and recycled by others, unaware that these elements might inhabit them; they are merely a shell ready to be used.
A voice breaks through the chaos of darkness and disorder, an ancient voice that looks me in the eye, connecting with the inner light that has served as my shield.
‘Would you like me to turn on the lights, miss?’ he asks me. ‘Yes, please, thank you very much,’ I reply.
As if in a burst of light, the shadows disappear; I see them retreat behind the altar and the sculptures into the shadows. I stand there watching the scene, thinking of the number of people who will enter that place every day, but I breathe a sigh of relief: the lights, which act as shields against the shadows and evil, will be able to protect them and keep them safe from being possessed by them.
– me dice.

This fictional story is based on the photographs you can see here, which were taken during a visit to a church where, when I went in, all the lights were off, and I decided to take photographs anyway until the priest kindly switched the lights on after asking me about it. And with this story, I am taking part in the community initiative.
Thank you very much for joining me today; I send you my warmest regards. See you soon. Amonet.
