A Weekend in San Francisco with Family
I have been coming to San Francisco for 26 years. I have visited this city numerous times, in fact too many times to count, and yet it never gets old to me. I visit for work and I visit for vacation. It is a perfect short weekend destination for our family. This is the second city I have visited in the United States since I came over here as a student more than two decades ago, the first being OKC (where I landed). San Francisco remained my favorite city in the United States, and perhaps also in the whole world, and I have been to many cities in the world :)
The city has the eternal charm and the perfect 65-70 F weather that helps me to walk 20,000 steps easily every single day. Houston being unbearably hot and humid well into late September drives the urge to get out of this time almost every time. My kid's school get a random long weekend every month of the year. It is typically Fridays, and I do not work on Fridays, unless there is something critical going on or I am travelling, so it gives us a good opportunity to get out of town. Get out of this hell hole we call Houston in eternal summer!
Since this is a town we have been many times, and our kids are bigger, my wife and I can have a family dinner, and a date night out on the same evening. We can have a random walk around the Italian area of the town in the morning and have a coffee and cannoli and almond cookies by ourselves, and then take the kids out to Chinatown.
And then take a Waymo down to the DeYoung Museum.
You can see both are taller than their mom now, which they like a lot!
By the way, here we saw a 48 year old guy practicing skateboarding....I went in and talked to him and took a couple of action pictures.....it feels good that there is no start date for whatever you like to do. I this from my person life, as my wife started long distance running at the age of 46.
Also I am convinced that the little one can be tall but she is tiny! Here is the proof.
Moring Rituals
Their mom went for a long run all the way to Golden Gate bridge and back, while we spend the morning at the Fisherman Wharf Boudin eating breakfast.
I have written at length regarding my fascination about the Boudin Bakery at the original location. Everytime I visit the city, I make sure I have several meals there. Thankfully kids love it too!
Then I took the kids to see the Submarine, don't know how much they love seeing a Torpedo, but I do! Guess, they have to do some of what their dad loves!
But the older always like the view of the Alcatraz!
After their mom got back from running we took a Bus ride to Golden Gate and walked back along the coastal path from the Bridge via Crissy field.
Monday Morning
Kids had the Monday off too, so we took the day off and stayed back in the city. It was a perfect slow morning and our travel day back to Houston. We typically take the late afternoon flight back, so basically still have half the day. On the travel day morning kids typically like to stay back at the hotel which we like a lot. Because that frees up our personal time for a long walk in the morning to Coit Tower and enjoy some of the iconic SF view from the Filbert Steps.
I am sure I will do trips like this many more times!
