Foreman of the Verico

Foreman of the Verico

We first joked, what is a Foreman?

The one that comes after Threeman! :)

Well, it's been a while since I have written about Splinterlands. The reason was simply, there wasn't that much to report that was interesting. I also didn't want to write the doom and gloom, which doesn't lifts any boats. I must say I was sincerely underwhelmed by the original announcement by the launch of the Verico land card set.

This was simply because that these cards were underpowered. Both in terms of PP and in terms of abilities. Also they were common cards.

Yet, after the launch, there was new information provided by the team and discussed on previous Town Halls. Below of the summary screenshot that is provided by @clayboyn while discussing this with both Matt and @davemccoy.

The new item for me now is that these cards are mandatory to power a buildings. Team have been working on the buildings for a while, and a release is imminent. Buildings are defined as follows in the updated whitepaper:

These structures take the raw materials produced by worksites as inputs, and refine them to produce other materials as outputs. In Phase 2, all the various types of Refined Resources will be produced from buildings.

In simple words: so far we have been producing raw materials from worksites. Building will take those raw materials and produce "refined resources".

the primary distinction between worksites and buildings is that worksites produce fundamental resources (stage 1 in the production pipeline) that don't require any other inputs, whereas buildings produce outputs from some combination of inputs (stage 2+ in the production pipeline).

Here is the punchline:

Without Verico, or previous generation (and future generation) land cards, it will not be possible to run a building.

I like this bit a lot. Here is my reason:

For the last 8 years we have transferred value from people who pays the current items to the people who were early and had alpha-beta cards. The value should always be transferred to the people who pays

I have always been vocal to ensure most value goes towards the "yellow plug"; mind you that doesn't mean early or late players, it just means "those who pays". I do know a few early adopters who stayed and paid......I am one of them. So, I better put my money where my mouth is.

My Verico Cards

At first, I decided that I won't buy any of the Verico cards. However, after this announcement, things have changed and I am purchasing a whole lot of them, both as packs and from the secondary market.

The basic concept is simple. You put one of the Verico cards at slot 1. Now there are 5 total slots. In future, when building is operation, it will be 10 total slots for a Level 1 building, and they might look something like above. All Verico cards have elements, like all other cards, which you should try to match with your particular plot. Here I have matched my Forest plot, which is producing wood, to Queenstone Reaper: a life/earth card, which gets a 10% boost in Forest plots. Also Queenstone Reaper is from Canisan bloodline; and gets 10% production bonus if there is a same bloodline monster in one of the slots.

I have Aria Bandit in slot 2, with the same Canisan bloodline, giving all cards a 10% additional boost.

I am preparing some of my common plots this way, so that when Buildings are release, I will simply have to switch the plot from Natural resource producing plot (here it is producing wood) to a refined resource producing plot (maybe Lumber?). There you have it. That is my current status, and I am slowly working through a few of my plots. Hope you are doing the same!

Wait, does that mean I won't be able to generate wood and grain anymore unless I have these cards?

That's a crucial consideration to prevent economic and environmental degradation

I'm starting to hoard again, hoping that the buildings will push the prices. And after that announcement, I'm now about to buy a decent stack of VoV packs, too, or single cards. I'm not sure yet. There's a lot of trading and exchanging going on around the cards, so getting packs and then interchanging them with other players might be a better way then paying 10% extra on the SPL market.

Hopefully the higher level resources produced by the buildings will have higher value and not the same race to the bottom that the natural resources did?
