Friends, today we took another step forward and got closer to the 100 castles challenge! I'm documenting this experience on both my blog and YouTube channel, so you can follow along as I update each castle I visit. Today's castle is just under 40 km from the center of Lisbon and is located in the municipality of Alenquer, where we've already visited its main castle! Even though it's a ruin, it deserves a spot on my corkboard, where it will be immortalized for all time. Enjoy my post!🚩📸

I want to highlight two interesting things about this castle. First, it's a ruin, but some parts are still preserved, like the walls and the keep. The other thing to note is that the terrain is quite rough; you can only reach it via a 500-meter path through thick undergrowth and thorny vegetation. My mistake? Visiting it in shorts! Haha, I came out of there with cuts all over my legs! xD📸🌍🏞️
Quiero resaltar dos cosas interesantes sobre este castillo: primeramente, que es una ruina, pero aún se preservan algunas partes como las murallas y la torre del homenaje; lo otro para destacar es que el terreno es bastante duro, ya que para llegar a él solo lo hacemos por un sendero de 500 metros entre maleza y vegetación con espinas. ¿Mi error? ¡Visitarlo en pantalones cortos! Jaja, salí de allí con todas las piernas cortadas. xD🏆🚩🏰
We are extremely isolated, very close to the "Serra de Montejunto," a protected natural area renowned for its beauty and biodiversity. That's why the views from the top of the hill are so spectacular. It was especially important because it formed a triangle between Alenquer Castle, Óbidos Castle, and Torres Vedras, all of which I've already visited and documented! It deeply saddens me to see these abandoned structures that could be part of Portugal's heritage.🌍🚙
Estamos súper aislados, muy próximos a la "Serra de Montejunto", un área de protección natural que se destaca por su belleza y biodiversidad; por eso las vistas desde lo alto de la colina son tan espectaculares. ¡Y era súper importante porque formaba un triángulo entre el castillo de Alenquer, el de Óbidos y el de Torres Vedras, todos ya visitados y registrados por mí! Me da una profunda pena cuando veo estas estructuras abandonadas, pudiendo ser patrimonio de Portugal.📸🌏

Leaving my mark on what is now a structure listed as a "public heritage site" is something that gives me goosebumps because, since it is in ruins, we don't know when it will disappear. Being able to see and photograph it excites me greatly!🏰🚩

The castle of "Vila Verde dos Francos" is of great historical interest because it is not known for certain, nor is there any record of, when it was built. However, it is presumed that it could have been in the 11th or 12th century, when the reconquests were ending or in full swing. Nevertheless, these lands had already been occupied since prehistory, passing from the Romans to the Muslims.🌍🕌
El castillo de "Vila Verde dos Francos" tiene mucho interés histórico porque no se sabe a ciencia cierta, o no existe algún registro de, cuándo fue construido, pero se presume que pudo ser en el siglo XI o XII, cuando acababan o estaban en pleno apogeo las reconquistas; sin embargo, estas tierras ya habían sido ocupadas desde la prehistoria, pasando desde los romanos hasta los musulmanes.📍💂🏻♀️
From the late medieval period to the modern era, there is no information indicating that the castle was occupied or involved in any major war. On the contrary, it was abandoned and never restored to this day. However, one important fact is that it was built by a foreigner, which is unusual. The tower, with its Gothic architecture, classifies it more as a castle than a fortress.🚙📸
Desde finales de la era medieval hasta la era moderna no hay ningún tipo de información de que el castillo hubiese sido ocupado o que entrara en una guerra importante; al contrario, fue abandonado y nunca más restaurado hasta el día de hoy. Eso sí, hay un dato importante, y es que fue construido por una persona extranjera, algo poco común. La torre, con arquitectura gótica, lo clasificaba más como un castillo que como una propia fortaleza.🏞️🗺️📍
