The Long Game

PXL_20261025_130059294.jpg

It's been a bit of a crazy week for me. I'm still getting my feet underneath me after having been gone three days last week for my annual conference up north. Then when you factor in the recent election along with the market turmoil, it has been a bit of a roller coaster. While I am pretty happy that the people have decided the current path isn't the best one, it's pretty certain that crypto will potentially suffer in the short term. Whether or not we see a chokepoint 3.0 remains to be seen. My hope is that some of these younger politicians have a more favorable view on cryptocurrency than the old guard.

Either way, it's good to remind yourself that it is a long game. In the past few years we have started to see crypto fall in line with traditional investments. The days of quick gains and lottery wins on altcoins seem to be behind us. Your best bet at this point is stacking assets you think can slowly grow into something awesome over time.

I know it isn't as exciting, but I'm sure even Warren Buffet will tell you, boring is good.

The public school district I work for had a bond proposal on the ballot this past week. Sadly, it did not get approved. We ended up falling short by something like 600 votes. It's disappointing, given that our district sorely needed the updates that the bond was asking for. I get it though, at right around 20mil with gas prices as high as they are, it was just a bad time to ask the public for that kind of support. It seems callous to say, but people have bigger things to worry about.

It's interesting to read some of the comments on the social media posts from people who were clearly opposed to the bond. I'm not saying they are perfect, but I think our administration bent over backwards trying to give everyone as much information as possible to make an informed decision. To see people say otherwise (which a lot of them seem to be doing) is just frustrating beyond belief.

I'd wager that they either didn't read any of the information that was sent out, or didn't bother to attend any of the town hall meetings that were well publicised. It's just easier for them to feign ignorance and lie saying they weren't properly informed.

It's done now though, and there isn't anything we can do about it. It's a bit hard to believe that we are almost halfway through with November. Thanksgiving is going to be here before we know it in the US, and then Christmas is right around the corner.

The curation bot for @thepub account still seems to be rolling along quite nicely. As you can see from the photo above, I have added another account to the blacklist, and the blacklist seems to be working quite well. A great big thank you to the folks who have delegated to the account. This is just an important reminder that this is a work in progress. I appreciate all the support, but if you are doing this to hopefully make some money, you might want to rethink your delegation.

If you are simply doing it to support an awesome community, then fairplay. The fact is, I can't guarantee the rewards on delegation are even going to work. I still haven't quite figured out how I am going to get the liquid HIVE into the account to pay folks either.

That being said, the hope is that one day this will be working smoothly, and it might give you a decent return for your delegation. As of right now though, your patience is appreciated. If you are in a position where you can't afford to be patient, then I fully understand if you pull your delegation. No hard feelings!

This is the last piece of silver I recently picked up from APMEX. It was another one of those pieces that were only like $2 over the spot price, but you don't know what you are going to end up getting until it ends up at your door. Most of the pieces are pretty average like this one, but there was something special about this piece that made me decide I would probably keep it for myself versus giving it away to my nephew.

As you can see, this piece came from a company called Ohio Precious Metals and it was created from recycled sources. I think that is pretty cool. I know @bulliontools has been sending in a bunch of sterling silver lately and getting the silver extracted from it then sent back in different forms. Adding something like this to my stack is pretty cool, even if it is on a bit smaller scale.

I also think it's cool that they have the recycling symbol on it. My wife and I are big into recycling. We almost wish our recycling truck came every week like the trash truck does instead of every other week.

As far as traditional investments go. It's going to be interesting to see what happens moving forward. The previous plan was to move forward with data centers no matter the pushback from the public. Which made chip and energy stocks look like attractive holdings. Now, with the events of this past Tuesday, I think that is a bit more uncertain, and the markets are reflecting that.

Despite that, I think data centers and the need for clean safe nuclear power is not going to go away. It might just look a little different than we thought a week or two ago. As the title of this post suggests, it's a long game, and I plan on just holding to see what happens.

Playing the long game resonated with me, especially in a week when every headline seemed to demand an immediate reaction. Coming up about 600 votes short on the school bond had to sting after all the work your district put into explaining why the upgrades mattered. I also appreciate how upfront you are with your Hive delegators about what’s working and what you’re still figuring out with payouts.

I've seen that the markets have been reacting to the election. Apparently Musk is a little 'poorer' this week. The whole thing with data centres needs some thinking about what resources they need and the value they will provide. It cannot be just about what profits the companies claim they will make.

We're big on recycling too. It just makes so much sense.
