My participation in the Phone Photography Contest! - #136: Gallery of Hibiscus sp. or Cayenne on a rainy day at the Institute [Eng/Esp]

Greetings to the wonderful Feel Good community! Rainy days continue here in the city of Caracas—specifically in the valley—where these downpours only seem to stir up the heat. They turn the days into a chaotic, hellish experience, complete with long lines and an oppressive, stifling heat that leaves you with absolutely no energy; all you want to do is get home, take a shower, and have a nap. It’s a different story, however, when I have to head up to the institute, located at an altitude of over 1,000 meters. The air is cleaner there, and—most notably—the institute is situated within a rainforest, so the temperature is much cooler. With October marking the start of the rainy season, the climate there is actually quite comfortable.

This week, I had to make the trip up once again to teach two different sections—a process that takes nearly four hours in total. I start at 1:00 PM and finish at 2:45 PM, take a 15-minute break, and then continue for another two hours. It’s quite exhausting, so I try to refresh myself as best I can between classes. It has become a regular occurrence for heavy rain to begin around 3:00 PM, causing the temperature at the institute to drop significantly. Since I don’t have a proper jacket, I try not to stay up there too long. On this particular occasion, however, the arrival of these rainy days has encouraged the Hibiscus sp. flowers to bloom along the path to the library—which immediately reminded me of my dear friend @sacra97, who shares my love for plants and flowers. So, for this #phonephotography contest—specifically edition #136—I wanted to share with you this interesting gallery of hibiscus flowers that I came across while at the institute.

It felt like walking through an art gallery, but the exhibition I was admiring came straight from nature, which was showcasing a wonderful collection of hibiscus flowers in various colors! We begin with the classic red hibiscus—the most common variety of this flower. I actually had a red hibiscus plant at my old country house, so this flower always brings back memories from when I was just a kid. Further along, I was struck by the sight of yellow hibiscus flowers; I occasionally see these at the city’s botanical garden, but they aren't very common, so I snapped a few photos with my mobile phone. Finally, the crown jewel was a salmon-colored hibiscus in full, magnificent bloom. I loved it—it felt even more striking than the red or yellow versions, with petals that appeared thicker and more substantial. It truly stood out as the highlight of the collection just as I was leaving the institute. I made a point of using a strong zoom to capture the raindrops on their surfaces. Among them all, the salmon-colored hibiscus looked absolutely stunning with that light rain, set against the intense green of the surrounding leaves—it became, for me, the most beautiful hibiscus in this "autumn" collection, if you could call it that.

And so, friends, I wrap up my entry for this week’s #phonephotography contest. This collection of hibiscus flowers really lifted my spirits! The institute is vast, with many areas still left for me to explore, so it’s very likely I’ll share more snapshots from this wonderful place in the future. See you next week. Best regards!
