My participation in the #SMARP Contest - Round #295: Finding a mirror-like pool of water after the rain [Eng/Esp]

Greetings, Shadow Hunters community! Welcome to my entry for the SMARP contest, round #295. I almost missed this week’s round; although the mornings start off quite bright, the sky clouds over within a few hours, and—almost like clockwork—it begins to pour by 3:30 PM. It’s a sign that the monsoon season has arrived here in the Caribbean, bringing all sorts of complications: flooded streets, heavier traffic, and errands that end up taking the entire day. The downside of these days is that it’s very difficult to find natural reflections, as there simply isn’t enough light to capture a good one.

Since this is my final week of teaching at one of the faculties where I work, I’ve spent much of my time out and about, yet I hadn’t had any luck capturing any notable reflections. However, yesterday, as I was finishing up my classes near sunset, the sky cleared a bit, and the afternoon became bright once more. With the rain having stopped, I realized there might be a puddle or a pool of water somewhere that would allow for an interesting reflection—and sure enough, I found a large pool of water right at the bus stop. One of my fellow professors, who was with me, couldn’t understand why I was rushing toward the puddle and immediately started snapping photos with my phone. She was puzzled by my eagerness, but I simply didn’t want to lose the light needed to capture the reflection in this wonderful, natural mirror of water.

The reflection in this naturally formed puddle showed the hills around the institute and the cloud forest in the background—in fact, the institute itself is nestled within this cloud forest. As I moved around the puddle, I could see the sky and clouds drifting northward, toward Mount Ávila. I noticed a row of trees, one of which stood taller than the rest; it was captured by the watery mirror, creating a beautiful reflection of the tree set against a backdrop of rain clouds at dusk. It was a rather amusing situation: on one hand, I was thrilled to have captured such a great reflection, while on the other, the teacher accompanying me couldn't quite grasp my excitement. The truth is, I find it difficult to come across good reflections, and I especially love those that form naturally—like this pool of water left behind after the rain.

I lingered for a while longer, gazing at that massive tree—a typical specimen of the cloud forests found in the Caracas mountain range. As night began to fall and the air grew cold, I caught a bus to head back down, leaving the night behind us. But the reflection was already mine; I truly enjoyed the entire process that led to capturing this image for you all. See you in the next SMARP contest! Best regards!

Saludos!
