My participation in the Phone Photography Contest! - #137: The satisfaction of a duty fulfilled [Eng/Esp]

Hello, Feel Good community! Today was a particularly special day, friends, and I wanted to share it with you as part of this contest round #137. Today, I uploaded my students' grades—an action that officially marks the end of my duties for this semester! You can’t imagine the sheer volume of work this semester entailed, especially given the many challenges involved in successfully completing the laboratory sessions. When I finished uploading those grades, I felt such a profound sense of relief that it felt as though my vacation had already begun. And, as good news often comes in pairs, I also received payment for my work at the second university where I’m employed. So, I decided to treat my mother to lunch at the food court in the largest shopping mall in central Caracas.

I had been wanting to do this for a very long time. We’ve faced so many hardships over the last few years that we hadn’t even realized it had been over four years since we last went out to eat. So, I took her out for some chicken. Initially, I considered KFC—since the franchise is just getting established in Venezuela, I was excited to take my mom there—but, unfortunately, the prices for their combo meals were significantly higher than those at Arturo’s. We ended up choosing the latter. KFC still seems to be finding its footing in terms of attracting customers, but it is gradually carving out a space for itself in the Venezuelan market.

As we ate, I told my mother how euphoric I felt about finishing the laboratory course. She couldn’t quite understand my excitement, given that I still have classes to wrap up at my other job. In my current job, my classes are entirely theoretical; however, at the Central University of Venezuela, the laboratory sessions are a real challenge—they truly shape you as an instructor. Successfully completing the course without any students failing is an incredibly satisfying feeling! And what better way to celebrate reaching this major annual goal than by spending some time with my dear mother—especially since it had been so long since we last ate out? Along with our chicken meal, we were also offered a couple of ice cream cones at a 50% discount—and, of course, we weren’t going to pass up that opportunity!

And so, friends, with the satisfaction of a job well done, I spent the afternoon relaxing with my mother. I wanted to brighten her day and help her take her mind off the bitter situation we are currently facing in Venezuela. While things are undeniably difficult—politically, economically, and socially—we must always seize the small moments we have with our families, enjoying and cherishing them. This is my way of making her feel good. See you next week. Best wishes!

Saludos!
