Over time, I've grown particularly fond of the Phone Photography contest, and I wanted to share a moment that made me reflect on the priorities imposed on us by social pressure, such as working 24/7, climbing the professional ladder, and achieving that coveted social success as if it were the ultimate goal, sacrificing friendships, time with loved ones, and time with our partners. We're then told that these sacrifices are necessary and that once we reach that professional success, we'll have time for "leisure." Well, in this context, I wanted to share some special moments I spent with my best friend from childhood, who is going through a truly unpleasant experience. We hadn't seen each other in a long time, as he was dedicated to work and attending to his boss, and then, in the blink of an eye, he was fired! When I found out, I went to see him because his fiancée told me he was really depressed, and so I did. We met up again after almost 10 months apart. To cheer him up, we chatted while we cooked some sausages and potatoes, which here in Venezuela we call salchipapas. I wanted to capture this moment with my friend and share it with you in this round #128 of phone photography.

My friend was telling me how dejected he felt after working for almost 10 years in public administration and being fired. Years of dedication thrown in the trash. The current situation in Venezuela is one of complete chaos, and at the level of ministries and public authorities, a kind of political revenge is taking place after the attack our country suffered on January 3rd. Since then, a kind of tense calm has prevailed throughout the public administration and the country, where, as always, the poor are left to pay the price. I share these same thoughts, and not because I was fired from my job, which, although in education, is still public administration. I've dedicated over 14 years to teaching, and while I feel good because I'm developing human capital, the meager salaries we receive are simply mistreatment by the state. We realized that we are the generation of the swindled, the ones who have to pay for the bad decisions of boomer politicians who sacrificed our future. Now we live day to day, unable to make plans for the future or the long term; we only have the present, the here and now.

That's how we realized we must appreciate the small moments more, those that seem insignificant because of their everyday nature, but which, seen in retrospect, acquire a value worthy of being treasured, precisely because of their ephemeral nature. Moments like this, while we cooked these potatoes with sausages and shared experiences and remembered times when things were calmer and less chaotic.

After frying the sausages and potatoes, we added mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup, and we were ready to enjoy them while doing what we loved most whenever we got together: playing Assassin's Creed. We went almost 10 months without seeing each other, and it only took one reunion to rekindle and strengthen our long-standing friendship. As I was leaving, I saw her face and realized she was in much better spirits. Now she's starting a new chapter in her professional life, but she knows there are more important things than just working tirelessly. Hola de nuevo, apreciada comunidad! Como siempre es un gusto compartir experiencias con ustedes en este espacio tan acogedor. Con el tiempo le he agarrado un cariño especial al concurso de Phone Photography y he querido compartir un momento que me ha llamado a la reflexión de las prioridades que nos son impuestas por la presión social como trabajar 24/7, ascender en la escalera profesional y alcanzar el tan anhelado éxito social como si fuera el fin máximo, sacrificando amistades, momentos con tus seres queridos y de pareja. Nos dicen entonces que son sacrificios necesarios y que cuando lleguemos a ese éxito profesional ya tendremos tiempo para dedicárselo al "ocio". Bueno, en este contexto he querido compartirles unos momentos especiales que pasé con mi mejor amigo de la infancia y que esta pasando por un trance verdaderamente desagradable. Teníamos mucho tiempo sin vernos, ya que estaba dedicado a trabajar y atender a su jefe, y entonces, en un abrir y cerrar de ojos fue despedido de su trabajo! Cuando me enteré fui a verlo pues su prometida me comentó que estaba verdaderamente deprimido, y asó lo hice, nos reencontramos nuevamente luego de casi 10 meses sin vernos. Y para levantarle el ánimo nos pusimos hablar mientras cocinábamos unas salchichas con papas que aquí en Venezuela llamamos salchipapas. Quise entonces registrar este momento con mi amigo y compartirlo con ustedes en este round #128 de phone photography.

Mi amigo me comentaba lo abatido que se sentía después de trabajar casi 10 años en la administración pública y ser botado. Años de dedicación tirados a la basura, y es que la situación actual en Venezuela es de completo caos y a nivel de los ministerios y poderes públicos se esta llevando acabo una especie de revancha política después del ataque que sufrió nuestro país el 3 de enero. Desde entonces ha existido en toda la administración pública y el país, una especie de tensa calma donde los pobres como siempre nos toca pagar las consecuencias. Yo tengo las mismas reflexiones y no porque me hayan votado de mi trabajo que aunque es en la docencia, es igualmente administración pública. Ya tengo más de 14 años dedicados a la docencia y aunque me siento bien porque estoy produciendo capital humano, los salarios de miseria que recibimos es simplemente un maltrato de parte de estado. Nos dimos cuenta que somo la generación de los estafados, los que nos toca pagar las malas desiciones de políticos boomers que sacrificaron nuestro futuro, y ahora vivimos al día, no podemos proyectar planes a futuro y largo plazo, solo tenemos el presente, el aquí y ahora.

Fue así como nos dimos cuenta que debemos apreciar más los pequeños momentos, los que parecen insignificantes por lo cotidiano que son, pero que vistos en retrospectiva adquieren un valor dignos de ser atesorados, precisamente por eso, por ser efímeros. Momentos como este, mientras cocinábamos estas papas con salchichas y compartíamos experiencias y recordábamos momentos, cuando las cosas eran más tranquilas y menos caóticas.

Después de freír las salchichas y papas, les agregamos mostaza, mayonesa, salsa de tomate y ya estábamos listos para disfrutarlas haciendo lo que más nos gustaba hacer cada vez que nos reuníamos, jugar Assassin´s Creed. Pasamos casi 10 meses sin vernos y basto solo reencontrarnos 1 vez para entrelazar y reforzar nuestra amistad de años nuevamente, y cuando ya me retiraba vi su rostro y me di cuenta que ya estaba de mejor ánimo. Ahora comenzará una nueva etapa en su vida profesional pero ahora sabiendo que hay cosas más importantes que solo trabajar sin descanso.
