Friends at Shadow Hunters, I’ve been away for the past two weeks because I was swamped organizing my schedule; I started a new job this week, so—in short—I now have two all-consuming teaching jobs. One is at the university where I normally teach, and the other is at a newly opened university focused on emerging fields of study. That means I’m teaching a total of 10 hours a week! The main challenge has been the scheduling; I’ve had to teach my first classes very early in the morning and then immediately catch the official shuttle for the new university, with barely any time to spare. Just yesterday, during my second day at this new university, I was surprised to come across a spectacular reflection. I immediately thought it would be a great entry for this week’s SMARP contest—specifically round #290.

The commute to the new university took a full hour, but the shuttle dropped us off right at the stop in front of the main university cafeteria. This is a huge complex designed to accommodate a portion of the student body, as the rest of the students are based at the main campus, which has its own cafeteria. What makes this shared cafeteria—used by both students and faculty—so interesting, however, is the huge windows at the entrance that create a spectacular reflection of the bus stop.

Unfortunately, it was so cloudy that day that the city valley was obscured from view. The area where the university is located sits atop the highest hill in this range; I could actually feel the temperature difference—having always worked in the Caracas valley, where the heat is hellish, I found the chill up here quite noticeable, and I hadn't thought to bring a jacket. On my first day, however, the sky was clear and the view was stunning; you could see the chain of mountains and hills stretching all the way to the horizon, so I might well return to capture more shots of this place. Another striking detail is how the site seems surrounded by a vast forest; in essence, it sits within a huge cloud forest that extends along these mountain ranges, reaching all the way to my research center, which is just over an hour away. The key factor is the high altitude; the vegetation consists of massive, lush trees with sprawling canopies. You can see in this shot how these towering trees rise up, seemingly poised to swallow any attempt at urban development or construction.

Amigos de Shadow Hunters, me perdí estas 2 semanas pero era porque estaba hasta el cuello organizando mi cronograma de actividades, ya que estoy empezando en mi nuevo trabajo esta semana, así que en resumen tengo 2 trabajos que me absorben por completo ya que son de docencia, uno en la universidad donde normalmente doy clases y otro en una universidad recién inaugurada enfocada a carreras emergentes, así que semanalmente estoy impartiendo 10 horas semanales! El problema ha sido principalmente de horarios, he tenido que dar mis primeras clases muy temprano en la mañana e inmediatamente tomar el transporte oficial de la universidad nueva con el tiempo muy contado. Justo el día de ayer tuve mi segundo día de actividades en esta universidad nueva y tuve la sorpresa de encontrarme con un reflejo espectacular que de inmediato pensé que sería un gran aporte para el concurso SMARP de esta semana en su round #290.

El viaje hasta la nueva universidad tardó 1 hora completa, pero nos dejó en la parada que esta al frente del comedor principal de la universidad. Este es un enorme complejo para albergar una parte de todos los estudiantes de esta universidad ya que el resto de los estudiantes están en la sede principal de la universidad donde tienen su propio comedor. Pero lo interesante de este comedor que comparten estudiantes y profesores, es que tiene en su entrada enormes ventanales que generan un espectacular reflejo de la parada de buses.

Lamentablemente ese día estaba el día tan nublado, que no permitía ver el valle de la ciudad, esta parte donde esta la universidad es la colina más alta de esta cordillera y de hecho pude sentir el choque de temperatura, ya que yo siempre he trabajado en el valle de Caracas y la temperatura es infernal, en cambio aquí arriba el frío se hacía sentir bastante y no pensé en traer una chaqueta. En mi primer día si estaba el cielo despejado, y era algo hermoso, podías ver la cadena de montañas y colinas extendiéndose hasta el horizonte, por lo que es posible que vuelva a tomar reflejos de este lugar. El otro detalle es como este lugar parece estar rodeado de un gran bosque, y es que este lugar es en esencia un enorme bosque nublado que se extiende a lo largo de estas cadenas de montañas hasta llegar a mi centro de investigación que se encuentra a poco más de 1 hora de este lugar. El detalle esta en la gran altura a la que esta este lugar, la vegetación son enormes arboles frondosos o con grandes copas vegetales, los puedes ver en este reflejo como se levantan estos grandes arboles y parecieran engullir cualquier intento de urbanismo o estructura que se intenta levantar.

Bien amigos, espero que este reflejo les haya gustado, como les dije este no fue la mejor circunstancia para capturar este reflejo así que es muy posible que les comparta una segunda parte de este reflejo pero en un día despejado y muy soleado, porque la impresión que da es que parece que estas en una ciudad en las nubes.
