Food Delivery Apps Overcharging on Tips

I've known about this for a while but really didn't think about posting it until now. For those of you who use food delivery apps like DoorDash, UberEats, GrubHub, etc., you're likely being cheated out of money if you're not doing your own math when tipping.

The next time you go to add a tip, calculate it yourself. What you'll likely find is the tip is being calculated based on the final subtotal, which includes fees and tax.

I ordered some food this week and it told me a 15% tip should be $5.81 on my order.

Sure, if you add 15% on top of the service fee and tax. I'm not tipping for the privilege of paying a fee and being taxed.

If you add 15% to the subtotal before fees and taxes, then a 15% tip is actually $5.10 rounded up.

The app tried to cheat me out of $0.71. It may not seem like much but it adds up, and it's the principle of it all more than anything. Check your math before you confirm your order!
