Father's Day at home orchids : September 6 2026

Today is Father's Day here in Australia. We have a gathering happening at our house. My wife's son and grandson and some friends and their son. My job - cook two entrees and a mixed protein melange for the mains and broccolini. My wife did all the salad things - nice potato salad and coleslaw

Did get a car from her brother. He says I am like a father - his dad died a year ago. It is a special card as he is disabled - cannot read but he could write names inside

Had replied to a few ads for Father's Day. Bought Never Never gin and Toblerone. Reminds me of two years working in Switzerland.

New orchid opener for the day. A cymbidium orchid from a friend down south. Plants are 40 years old.

Nice to have two different colours for freebie orchids

Pink rock orchid - dendrobium kingianum.

The white ones will be open in a few days.

Ollie had a fab time. He cruises around the place going from idea to idea. He is totally at home here. Not many rules

Did open a special bottle - 1997 Wynn's John Riddoch Cabernet - was fab. Now $246 a bottle says my friend.

Was a good day. One has to make the best - too bad no messages from any of my children
