Greetings to the @womentribe community. I am joining the initiative led by our esteemed @syllem for her "Inspirational Writings" column, which invites us to reflect on the theme: "When being fed up drives you to change." She points out that while we may tolerate many things—often because we believe there are no other options—there eventually comes a point of total exhaustion, where we decide to just throw it all away. Here is my contribution:
Often, it is difficult not to give in to others, and it can be truly overwhelming to harbor frustrations stemming from expecting too much from people. This leads to stress and false hopes, as we become weighed down and allow these feelings to take over our minds.

Setting Boundaries in My Life
This was particularly true in my relationship with my family. As the eldest sister, I didn’t realize that by showing deep concern, I came across as overbearing; if I asked how they were doing, I was seen as being too inquisitive; and if I took an interest in their problems, it was perceived as meddling in matters that didn’t concern me.
I’ve come to realize that I deserve to be treated well. Sometimes, no matter how much you do, people may not show appreciation—and while I don’t necessarily need that gratitude, it is essential to maintain clarity about what is good for me and when it’s time to let go. Others may have expectations of me for their own sake, but I must also look after my own well-being.
The reality is that I can always set boundaries in my life—while always maintaining respect. I am not obligated to keep smiling when all I receive is criticism. No one has the right to make me feel bad. By clearly establishing my own boundaries, I can avoid becoming emotionally overwhelmed, while also ensuring I don’t place an undue burden on others.
Living with sadness and frustration
When we insist that things be a certain way, we condemn ourselves to living with sadness and frustration. I believe we cannot change others—whether family or friends—only ourselves, and that should be enough. At this stage of my life, the freedom to share my life with whomever I choose is priceless; I am under no obligation to maintain any relationship that is toxic to me. I always have the power to choose—and the sooner, the better.
I also recognize that, while I can certainly offer help when needed—within the limits of what I am able to provide—it is essential to prioritize myself and know when to say "no."
When I have felt immature
The truth is, I have felt immature when I give in too easily just to avoid arguments, or when I allow others to take advantage of my trust. I have also felt immature when I defer to the opinions of others, mistakenly believing that I am being understanding and tolerant—all of this driven by a deep desire to maintain harmony.
It is crucial for me to realize that, in doing so, I am allowing others to exert control over my actions. It is for these reasons that I decided—and told myself—that I needed to change.I know I can help others, and that I don’t need to run away from anyone, but my priority will always be to first discover what I truly want and to take care of myself.
On the other hand, in my view of friendship, experience has shown me that a true friend is someone who never changes—no matter how much time passes—and that is the kind of person who is truly worth it. If I don’t see it that way, then it isn’t a sincere friendship; being greeted one day only to be ignored the next is something very unpleasant, and we don’t deserve that.
Cuando me he sentido inmadura
The desire to maintain harmony
Sometimes you need to step back a bit—be available, but without being overbearing. It’s not always best to give everything; it’s better to offer affection in measured amounts, so that others value it more and learn to appreciate the effort we put in.
I think you can’t go through life trying to please everyone—that’s impossible. It’s better to give just the right amount; this leads to less burnout and leaves us with more energy. And then, when they notice your absence, they might just find themselves drawn closer to you.
Ultimately, when it comes to family matters, the wisest approach has been to keep my opinions to myself and let things unfold—a realization that only truly dawned on me once I understood that they had grown up. Now, if a situation arises, I can talk to them and perhaps offer some help or companionship; I have come to see that it is better to remain silent unless asked, and to offer advice only when it is requested.
I firmly believe that choosing to let go of what I cannot change does not mean that my past experiences lacked value. On the contrary, I thank God for this—it is proof that I cherished those experiences enough to be able to release them in peace, allowing each person to continue growing toward where they need to be, all in keeping with my sincere desire to maintain harmony.
