Continuing with my magnificent series of Beatles reviews, it's a great pleasure to share with you today the review of one of their early songs, which has certain aspects worth highlighting. This time, I'm referring to the legendary track "Twist and Shout," a very well-known song with a characteristic energy and swing. At least in my case, upon first hearing it, you realize you're in the presence of a classic, or rather, a musical phenomenon. The following musicians participated in the track:

First, I should mention that this song is not an original Lennon/McCartney track. It's a cover of a song written in 1961 by Phil Medley and Bert Russell Berns, which was recorded by The Isley Brothers. The Isley Brothers' version didn't achieve much success upon its initial release, unlike The Beatles' cover.

Indeed, The Beatles recorded the song on February 11, 1963, at EMI Studios in London, and it closes side B of their debut album, "Please Please Me." If we count it by the number of songs on that album, it would be the fourteenth track.

This decision by producer George Martin wasn't a whim, nor a technical issue with the album, nor a filler detail, but rather a very conscious and compassionate act towards John Lennon. At the time they recorded that track (and others), John had a cold and a severe sore throat; his voice was on the verge of collapse, unable to carry on any longer. If we listen to their recording, we hear Lennon's voice rasping and irritated; he's practically shouting instead of singing.

There are other tracks on the album where we hear Lennon's voice strained and on the verge of breaking. For example, in the song "Anna," Lennon had to sing through a cardboard cone so that his voice wouldn't sound so hoarse and languid. The cone gave his voice a slightly more stable and acceptable quality, allowing him to record the song. Despite these challenges, these tracks are immortal classics of music, timeless classics.

Musically speaking, this song is very simple, with basic chords and a very modest structure. However, it has a magic, a cadence, and an energy that makes it impossible not to listen and immediately start dancing. The interplay of Paul, John, and George's voices in the middle, and the subsequent scream that resonates deep within you, is epic and a harbinger of the fact that this group wasn't just a passing fad, but would last for years, decades, and, as it seems, will last forever. It was a song that was always part of their repertoire in concerts and live performances, both before and after achieving fame, so this song has always been linked to them; they adopted it and made it their own forever.

It reached number 2 on the Billboard charts in April 1964, with the global explosion of Beatlemania. In conclusion, for me, this song marks the end of one era and the beginning of another, with a tremendous impact, both for that time and for us who study, analyze, and analyze the musical, social, and cultural phenomenon known as The Beatles.
