***Eleven Has Arrived! Here's My Daughter’s Birthday Celebration
My daughter turned 11 on Monday, August 17. On Saturday the 22nd, we had her birthday party at a club. We rented a place with a pool, out in the countryside, far enough away from the hustle and bustle, the noise of cars, motorcycles, and everything else. It was the perfect place for the kids to have fun and spend some time surrounded by nature. It wasn't exactly a rustic, country setting, but it was cozy and welcoming, and honestly, it was just what we needed. As her mother, I wanted to give her a beautiful birthday party, something simple but special. The theme was Ragata, her favorite character from The Amazing Digital Circus, which was exactly what she had asked for. And honestly, it wasn't easy. Ragata isn't exactly a widely known or popular character in my country, so I had to take care of almost everything myself, from the cake to the decorations and all the little details.
But watching her enjoy it made every bit of the effort worth it. Seeing her happy, seeing her having such a good time with her friends from school and her dance classmates, was honestly one of those moments that stay with you. There was something incredibly beautiful about watching her have the kind of carefree fun that children should have. They spent the day playing, swimming, laughing, running around, talking, and simply being kids. And while I was watching all of this, I realized how quickly these moments pass. Eleven years sounds like a long time when you say it out loud, but somehow, I still remember so many things about the little girl she used to be.
Sometimes we forget that we, as parents, were children too. We had our own dreams, our own birthdays, our own little things we wished for. And, honestly, there is something deeply beautiful about realizing that the circle of love keeps going when we become parents. We get the chance to give our children some of the things we might have wanted ourselves but never had. Not because we are trying to rewrite our own childhoods through them, but because we know how precious those experiences can be. Our children deserve to be the protagonists of their own lives, to be happy, to experience things, to create memories that belong entirely to them.
There is also something almost poetic about seeing your child's face when she is genuinely happy. Not pretending, not trying to impress anyone, not worrying about anything beyond the moment. Just happy. I looked at my daughter that day and saw that little spark in her eyes, surrounded by the people she loves, enjoying a day that was created especially for her. It may sound cliché, but there are moments when clichés become clichés for a reason. That feeling is priceless. And as a mother, I don't think there is much that compares to seeing your child genuinely enjoying herself.
So yes, the cake, the decorations, the planning, the effort, the money, the countless little details, all of it was worth it. Not because the party had to be perfect, but because she was happy. Because for a few hours, she could simply be an 11-year-old girl, surrounded by her friends, swimming, laughing, playing, and enjoying her childhood. And maybe that is one of the most beautiful parts of motherhood: knowing that we cannot protect our children from everything, and we cannot stop time, but we can give them moments they will carry with them. Moments that, years from now, might return as memories. And I hope that when she looks back at her childhood, she remembers that she was deeply loved. Because that, more than anything else, is what I want her to know.
