I have to admit something: every time I look at the creatures in my fan lore post about Holozing, I end up asking myself the same stupid question. Where did all these things actually come from?
It is easy to say that they live in the world because, well, they are creatures. Of course they live somewhere. But the more I think about it, the stranger it becomes. Why do some of them control elements? Why are others so different from anything we would consider a normal animal? And why does the world seem to have so many creatures with completely different abilities?
Maybe there is a much bigger story behind them.
One theory I really like is that the creatures did not originally exist as dozens of different species. Maybe, a very long time ago, there was something that connected all of them.
It could have been some kind of energy spread throughout the world. Not necessarily magic in the traditional sense, but something natural that humans simply do not understand yet.
The first creatures could have appeared when this energy interacted with the environment. Water, fire, earth, plants, electricity and other forces could have influenced how living things developed.
That would make their elemental abilities feel much more natural.
A creature born near a huge river might slowly develop abilities connected to water. Another living around volcanic mountains could become resistant to heat and eventually learn to control fire. Something living deep inside an ancient forest could become connected to plants and nature.
Over time, these creatures would adapt to their surroundings.
Some would become stronger. Others would become smaller or faster. Some might develop completely new abilities. And, eventually, the original creatures could disappear while their descendants became the species we know today.
But there is another possibility that I find even more fun.
What if something happened to the planet?
Maybe there was an enormous event in the distant past that changed everything. It could have been a natural disaster, an explosion of energy or something that nobody in the present understands anymore.
Plants changed. Animals changed. The environment changed.
And the creatures were born from that transformation.
If that were true, humans could have arrived much later and completely misunderstood what they were seeing. They would simply assume that these creatures were part of nature, without realizing that they were actually living evidence of something that happened thousands of years ago.
This could also make the relationship between humans and creatures much more interesting.
At first, people probably had no idea what to do with them. Imagine seeing a creature capable of controlling fire for the first time. I don't think the first human reaction would be "Wow, let's train it." It would probably be closer to "Everyone run."
Eventually, however, humans would learn that some creatures could form bonds with them.
That could be the beginning of tamers, healers and everything else that eventually developed around them.
But I would not make every creature friendly.
Some should remain completely wild. Others could live in places where humans rarely go. There could even be ancient species that understand things about the world that humans have forgotten.
And that is where the lore could become really interesting.
Maybe discovering a rare creature is not only about getting something powerful for your team. Maybe that creature tells you something about the past.
A forgotten species could reveal that an entire ecosystem once existed somewhere. Another could be connected to an ancient civilization. A strange elemental creature could provide the first clue that the origin of these beings is not what everyone believed.
So perhaps the biggest mystery in Holozing isn't who created the creatures.
Maybe the mystery is why they exist in the first place.
And if we eventually discover the answer, I have a feeling it could change how we see the entire world.
