From Storm to Calm: The Art of Purifying and Breathing in Peace.
This week, I invite you to continue exploring how the four elements of nature pulse through our bodies and our emotions. This time, we’ll be working with Water and Air. Although we generally associate both with tranquility, nature itself reminds us that this isn’t always the case.
“From storm to calm” is a literal phrase. The idea for this topic came to me last Sunday when, in the middle of the night, a major storm broke out. For many, it was an unsettling night: lightning lit up the sky, and in its wake, thunder shook even the windows. Inevitably, memories and events—both recent and distant—came to mind; the truth is that, to varying degrees, we are all susceptible to nature’s manifestations.

But the storm does not last forever. Dawn broke, and with it, a clear, unclouded sky full of light opened up before us. There was a palpable stillness that, just like the storm, if we let ourselves be carried away by it, leads us by the hand toward a recognition of peace. It gives us a deep understanding of the fleeting nature of chaos: the storm is temporary and fleeting; if we think about it, there are far more days of bright skies than of stormy ones.
Faced with this experience, I can’t help but think about how often we go through an inner storm. When this happens, we spend our days accumulating tension, stress, and sleepless nights, ruminating on our thoughts and trying to achieve a forced sense of calm. However, nature teaches us that, before serenity can set in, a storm is often needed to clear the way.

In honor of World Relaxation Day, celebrated on August 15, I found the perfect opportunity to address these two concepts through Biodanza, exploring the somatic and experiential transition from catharsis toward true self-regulation.
We often try to relax by repressing what we feel, which brings only fleeting relief. True relaxation isn’t about holding things in; it’s about giving expression free rein. Only when we allow what “torments” us to come out can we access genuine relaxation.
You’ve surely experienced this many times: when you gain clarity, when you decide and acknowledge where you’re headed, you feel an immediate sense of lightness. That’s why we shouldn’t put off the storm; let’s face what disturbs us so we can return to our center.
Moving toward relaxation reminds us that rushing water does not necessarily destroy: it cleanses, washing away stagnation, rigidity, and pent-up stress. When we finally let go of our burdens, the body regains its lightness, becoming able to float and dwell in the breeze.
That is the essence of true relaxation: it is not about a lack of energy or purpose, but rather a state of profound renewal where body, mind, and spirit feel cleansed and full of vitality.
I’ll close with this invitation to reflect:
What personal storm do you need to let go of today to make room for calm and breathe lightly once again?
