Forest and land fires are currently ravaging parts of Indonesia, including Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Papua. Despite over a month of firefighting efforts, the blazes remain difficult to extinguish. Several affected nations—such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand—have offered assistance, yet the Indonesian government remains reluctant to accept such help.
People are beginning to wonder: is this a new; recurring model of deforestation—burning forests and land to clear the way for oil palm plantations? If this suspicion holds true, the state has failed in its fundamental duty. It is sacrificing the "lungs of the world" solely for the sake of corporate profit.
For the past two days, smoke has been drifting across the Strait of Malacca, and the impact of these fires is now being felt in our province, Aceh. Visibility has dropped to a mere 50 meters, with the rest obscured by a thick haze. This morning, while in the city’s coastal area, I took a closer look and confirmed the reality: the consequences of these forest and land fires have indeed reached our city.
In this Monomad Challenge contest, I want to invite my friends to see some of Black and White photos caught by my camera; "The Impact of Forest and Land Fires", the pictures presented to my friends in Black and white Community 😉
