Hello everyone, Today I will write about a nice city in the Veneto region, only 30 km from Venice. Treviso is often called "Little Venice" thanks to the beautiful canals that pass through the old town. Those canals, surrounded by historic buildings and narrow streets, and I can tell you that walking is a real pleasure. The city is compact enough and it seemed to me that I could explore it on foot, which I usually do.Upon my arrival, I was offered a ride in a charming vehicle or the option to rent a bicycle. However, I decided to go on foot and take a closer look.I would recommend that anyone traveling to Venice visit this town and book an overnight stay here. You know how expensive Venice is; here, everything is much cheaper and quieter, and you can head into Venice early in the morning.What did I like first here? The chance to take a boat ride along the canals and the beautiful bridges overflowing with flowers.
My first stop after settling into the hotel was Piazza dei Signori, the city's main square, which was bustling with life. We sat on the terrace of one of the many cafés, enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine and simply watching the passersby. And, of course, the first thing we had was tiramisu—after all, it originated in this very city. I can tell you it was excellent—the best.It is also known for the famous Prosecco wine. In my country, this is the very wine I usually buy.This square is known for housing three important historical buildings that are interconnected to form a single complex: the Palazzo del Podestà, the Torre Civica, and the Palazzo dei Trecento.
Behind the Signori square and the town hall there is another nice square with a fountain, restaurants and two ancient churches that lean on each other - the Church of St. Lucia and the Church of St. Vitus.When I entered these churches I saw original frescoes, relics and other precious Catholic relics from the 14th and 16th centuries.
Just a few minutes' walk from Piazza dei Signori, I came across another important square, named after the city's largest and most significant church—St. Peter's Cathedral.As for the cathedral's interior, the inside is nothing special, but it is worth a look for a couple of reasons: the original 11th-century crypts and the more-than-impressive church organ.
Treviso is known for a couple of things we have all heard of. It is home to the headquarters of several brands, the most famous of which is Benetton. Naturally, there are many Benetton boutiques in my country that I visit often.
At the end of the day, I visited the Fish Market (Pescheria), which is accessed by boat. I wasn't thrilled by the unpleasant smell, but it was an experience nonetheless.
Treviso boasts a beautifully preserved old town and a fortress that offers a view of the entire city, as well as a magnificent vista of the Alps—especially in winter. I didn't get to see that beauty; I saved it for another time.
