After a weekend spent house sitting and playing butler to my friend's cat, I was very kindly given some lovely thank you presents. One of them was a bottle of Guinness Original, which is one of my favourites. It was a warm day too, so it was very welcome, especially for this week's #beersaturday!

Sitting in the garden with a drink was a pretty good way to spend an afternoon. I don't actually like my beer too cold, so the temperature was just right for me. I decided to open the bottle outside in the sunshine, although I probably should have left the pouring to someone else! My friend actually had a proper Guinness glass ready for me, but even the right glassware couldn't save my terrible technique. I'm definitely not a natural bartender and somehow managed to create a head of froth big enough to need its own post code. It had gone down a bit by the time I took the photo, but you can still see the tide marks all over the glass. Terrible pour, but it still tasted great!

At 4.2%, it’s an easy one to drink. It’s always a plus that Guinness is 100% vegan now, ever since they ditched those old fish gelatine filters a few years back.

It’s creamy and pretty mild, with a slightly bitter, roasted taste. I don’t really get chocolate or coffee from it like suggested, it just tastes kind of dark and malty to me.

Bad pouring skills aside, it was a lovely drink and a pretty nice way to spend the afternoon. It certainly helps that my friend has a very photogenic garden!
