Our morning #wednesdaywalk inspired by @tattoodjay took us through fields, bright yellow gorse, woodland paths, rocks, and purple heather.
Along the way, we spotted a bit of local history and countryside views. Horses grazed in the fields with surrounding stone walls.
A speckled brown butterfly rested on the footpath. I had seen it earlier on a leaf. You know how it goes, you just go to take a photo and the bugger flies off! But I caught up with it further up the path.
Up on top, bright yellow gorse flowers bloomed beside the purple heather along the trail.
There were old, weathered carved initials in the stone, GFK, by the path. Further along, there is a natural rock outcrop with a white trig point at the top of the hill, marking our highest point. These concrete pillars were built as fixed markers to help mapmakers measure the land and work out the exact height of the countryside.
The pooch, as usual, loved every minute, leading the way down. I love this part of the walk, with the delicate dried grasses.
On the way back, I spotted a great anti litter poster drawn by a local school kid, reminding everyone to bin their litter instead of dropping it. It was a good reminder to protect our countryside and save the planet.
I randomly bumped into another villager who had done the proper thing and walked all the way up from home to the rock. I felt a bit guilty having cheated by driving up in the car first, but we had a quick catch up anyway before heading off.
