Spotting the Small Things on the Trail with the Pooch

Day four of dog sitting was just another normal walk for me. I walk every single day anyway, so getting outside is nothing new. Having a dog along simply meant I had welcome company on my usual route.

We first headed to the pond. A small angler’s platform sat at the water’s edge, giving us a good view across the pond and the tall green reeds growing in the water. I've never seen so many reeds growing before.

We also stumbled across a random golf ball by the path. I am not sure how it got all the way over here, since the golf course is on the other side of the park.

Our route took us along a wide, reddish gravel path that cuts through the park. The air felt cool this morning, and autumn is definitely approaching.

I paid a bit of attention to the plants along the path as we walked along. Shiny rose hips and red rowan berries were easy to spot among the green leaves.

The dry rosebay willowherb seed heads blended into the background, while the bright green broom stems gave a bit of contrast.

I stopped at one point to take a picture of a dried knapweed stem. Attached to the stalk was a small, white silk pouch. I am not sure but it looked like an old burnet moth cocoon left behind on the dry stem.

Leaves are starting to cover the paths. The trees are slowly changing from summer green to simple warm colours like yellow and brown.

We finished up the loop, headed back home, and, as the rain had arrived, wiped off four muddy paws. Now the pooch is fast asleep on the bed while I make a hot cup of coffee.
