Treating yourself with kindness, care, and understanding is the essence of self-compassion. Practicing it when you fail, suffer, or feel inadequate greatly contributes to strengthening emotional well-being and mental health.
If you are someone who fails, suffers, or feels inadequate, don't torture yourself with harsh self-criticism that further damages your emotional and mental state. Use self-compassion as a tool to promote emotional stability and reduce anxiety, allowing you to achieve greater, more solid, and lasting mental well-being.
On this topic, I share a poem with the community to encourage reflection on self-compassion as a mechanism that can help us achieve greater emotional and mental well-being.

Self-compassion and well-being
The hand resting on your shoulder, your heart beating fast and agitated, is not the hand of a stern judge, not the hand of someone implacable.
It is the warm hand of self-compassion, that friend who recognizes the weight of the hours, the accumulated emotional burden, the silent pangs that wound.
That friend who arrives to make you see your burden.
It arrives like a sigh that needs no explanation, the pause that invites rest. It doesn't dress itself in the absence of pain, it arrives with a tender gaze to embrace you. It doesn't judge you harshly when you stumble, it understands your fragility, it knows the weariness you carry to your very bones. It draws near to relax you, it accompanies you to release your stress.
It speaks to you in a whisper, making you see how hard you are on yourself. It seeks to dismantle your armor, that self-sabotage you've built with bricks, those that have prevented the light from penetrating your inner self. Self-compassion seeps through your cracks, the accumulated cracks of imperfection. It wants to teach you to be sensitive to yourself.
Self-compassion is not a sign of weakness. It contains the subtle strength that helps us get up, reminding us that the fall is not final. Self-compassion is our anchor in the storm, that lighthouse that illuminates our path to a safe harbor, that harbor of our own being. Self-compassion is the same love we give ourselves, that love that arises when everything seems to turn hostile. Self-compassion is the silent certainty and the unmistakable sign that we are here, present, to help ourselves.
Self-compassion creates an atmosphere of well-being. Well-being is not a final destination, not an unattainable goal, sometimes a rocky path, a path that forces us to walk slowly, even if it crosses the desert, teaches us not to blame ourselves, helps us nourish ourselves with understanding, and offers its kindness to our spirit.
Well-being tells us that the body is a temple, not a machine to fulfill every objective; that the mind itself is tormented; that the mind needs to rest in calm waters. We long for the immense shade of a tree, the shade that offers relief and a sigh, the shade of our being's well-being.
Well-being is cultivating our inner world with seeds of love and patience, watering them with the tears we've shed and fertilizing them with the experiences we've learned. Well-being is seeing empathy blossom, empathy not only with others, empathy with ourselves. Empathy with the inner self that "self" that carries within it every story of life that "self" that navigates the sea of complex emotions.
Well-being is nurtured by: gentle gestures inner caresses unconditional acceptance the soft echo of an inner voice voices that speak to you with tenderness.
