Greetings, Hive community! This is Diego @encuentro, happy to be here in Hive Garden. Today I want to show you a bit of the work I've been doing on the land, working hard in the "conuco" (traditional farm plot). ¡Qué tal, mi gente de Hive! Les saluda Diego @encuentro, contento de estar en esta comunidad de Hive Garden. Hoy quiero mostrarles un poco del trabajo que estuve haciendo en la tierra, metido de lleno en el conuco.

For those who don't know or aren't from Venezuela, a conuco is an ancestral tradition left by indigenous peoples: planting a little bit of everything on the same piece of land. There isn't just one crop here; we mix various vegetables to optimize space and eat healthy food grown right at home. Para el que no sepa o no sea de Venezuela, el conuco es esa costumbre ancestral que nos dejaron los indígenas de sembrar de todo un poco en un mismo pedazo de tierra. Aquí no hay un solo cultivo; tenemos varias hortalizas mezcladas para aprovechar el espacio y comer sano de lo que cosechamos en la casa.

Today I had to work hard on clearing the plot. As you can see in the photos, I was weeding and clearing the brush to leave the land completely clear. It's tough work that makes you sweat, but it's deeply satisfying to see everything clean and ready to keep producing. All photos were taken with my Tecno Spark Go 2024 phone. Hoy me tocó darle duro a la limpieza. Como ven en las fotos, estuve desmalezando y quitando el monte para dejar la tierra despejada. Es un trabajo pesado y de bastante sudor, pero da una enorme satisfacción ver cómo va quedando todo limpio y listo para seguir produciendo. Todas las fotos fueron tomadas con mi teléfono Tecno Spark Go 2024.

Corn: In the background, you can see tall, green corn plants. That is one of our main crops that is never missing from our land. El Maíz: Al fondo se ven las matas de maíz bien altas y verdes. Esa es una de las siembras principales que nunca falta en nuestro terreno.
Resting in the shade: With the intense heat while working the soil, taking shade under the trees once in a while helps us catch our breath and recover energy. Descansando un rato a la sombra: Con el calor que hace trabajando la tierra, provoca agarrar sombra de vez en cuando bajo los árboles para tomar un respiro y recuperar energías.

Our pet keeping watch: Of course, our dog was right there lying on the cool dirt, keeping me company while I worked and staying alert to everything happening around us. La mascota echando un ojo: Por supuesto, ahí estaba el perro acostado en la tierra fresca, acompañándome mientras yo trabajaba y pendiente de todo lo que pasaba a su alrededor.

Sweet Peppers: Look at how loaded the sweet pepper plants are! There are green ones and others already turning red. Sweet pepper is indispensable for our traditional homemade seasoning. Los ajíes dulces: Miren cómo están las matas de ají dulce, cargaditas de frutos. Hay verdes y otros que ya agarraron color. El ají dulce es infaltable para el guiso tradicional de nuestra comida.

Eggplants: Over here we also have beautiful purple eggplants growing. Several are already full-sized and ready for harvest. Las berenjenas: Por aquí también se están dando unas berenjenas moradas bien bonitas. Ya hay varias listas para la cocina en la misma mata.

Tomatoes: I have tomato plants with green clusters still growing, and cherry tomato plants showing bright red, ripe fruits ready to pick. Los tomates: Tengo plantas de tomate con los gajos verdes todavía creciendo, y otras matas de tomate cherry donde ya se ven unos cuantos rojos y bien maduros.

Cucumber Vine: To prevent the cucumber vines from staying flat on the ground, I installed stakes and wall guides so the plant climbs up securely. La enredadera de pepino: Para que el pepino no se quede rodando en el suelo, le puse unas estacas y guías en la pared para que la mata vaya subiendo firmemente amarrada.

Other Growing Plants: There are also several young coffee plants growing strong with healthy color, thanks to natural fertilizer and constant care. Otras matitas creciendo: También hay varias matas jóvenes de café que van para arriba con buen color y energía, gracias al abono natural y al constante cuidado de la tierra.

Harvesting Seeds for the Next Planting | Sacando las semillas para la próxima siembra

Besides clearing and harvesting, we must secure the next planting cycle. It's not just about consuming what the plant gives us, but saving seeds to keep growing continuously. Aparte de limpiar y cosechar, hay que asegurar la siembra que viene. No se trata solo de consumir lo que da la mata, sino de guardar para volver a sembrar con constancia.
Drying Eggplant Seeds: In the photo, you can see eggplant seeds I extracted and set to dry in the sun on a white tile. Once dry, I keep them safe for the next sowing. Secando semilla de berenjena: En la foto se ven las semillas de berenjena que saqué y puse a secar al sol sobre una baldosa blanca. Una vez secas, las guardo para la siguiente siembra.

Peppers in the Sieve: Here I have selected sweet peppers inside a wooden mesh sieve. It's ideal for airing them outside safely without spoiling. Los ajíes en la zaranda: Aquí tengo los ajíes seleccionados en una zaranda de madera con malla. Es ideal para ponerlos a orear al aire libre sin que se arruinen o pudran.
Well, my friends, this was part of today's workload. Working the conuco requires time and effort, but eating what you grow in your own yard is priceless. See you soon! Bueno, mi gente, esto fue parte del trabajo de hoy. Trabajar el conuco lleva tiempo y esfuerzo, pero da gusto comer de lo que uno mismo siembra en su patio. ¡Nos vemos pronto!

    Ya sabes que me gustan mucho este tipo de publicaciones, esas en las nos muestras tu relación de respeto con la Tierra ylos ritmos de la Naturaleza. De esta publicación me ha gustado ver como el cultivo es todo un proceso y que hay que guardar las semillas para la próxima cosecha.
