Contactus Highlights

Today was a pretty demanding day for me and it's not over yet. As I have some free time till my next appointment, I thought I would disconnect my mind from the daily problems by looking at some paintings from the last exhibition and share my thought as well. It is a way of relaxation for me and a way to save these artworks on the blockchain as well.

The exhibition I want to write about today is called "Contactus" and it is an annual one. The good thing about it is that I don't have to make a cocktail in this case as the works are already mixed in style, so it can serve as a cocktail.

Dániel Sofalean - Expulsion

Let's start with this colorful painting, that at first glance seems like an thermo image in which two people are moving. Could be symbolizing Adam and Eve's expulsion from Paradise. If I'm right, this is a representation of modern technique in art. If I'm wrong, then it's just two red silhouettes walking in the woods at twilight.

Örs Rezi - Without Title 1, 2

Two paintings of the same style, from the same artist. Weird style for my taste, I must admit. Let's see if there's someone who like these two.

Gabriella Király - Lost Space 5

This monochrome painting was a puzzle to me, but if I make an effort, I can see the loss of space due to destruction, I think. From artistic point of view, I admire the artist for this ability to imagine the site of a disaster and put it on canvas. Most people only see, or can imagine the beauty, the whole and perfection, as when you are the creator, you make it as you like. Destruction is less desired.

Mária Albert - Interior Landscape

At this point I think we can agree on the fact that "weird" is the word of the day. I think I'll leave this to you, as a riddle, as I used to do back in the day. Tell me what you see here, how do you interpret the title.

Iulia Cosman - Morning Chill

After all the unusual painting we had above, here's one that resembles the traditional landscape painting. The brownish, golden tone of the painting makes me believe the scene was painting in the late afternoon. It's a quiet beach scene and the boat at the shore is a nice addition.

This was where the fun began for me. Two artworks from Eduárd Csupán. The one on the left is called Once upon a time in Gernyeszeg. What I love about this painting and it is undoubtedly the best so far, is, that the artist decided to focus on the light and scene outside the door. I like how the darkness frames the light green or yellow door and the blue sky that gives a bit more contrast to the scene.

The other painting on the right is called The door of the workshop. It's like a photograph of a real scene, which gives you a clue about the talent of the artist.

The funny thing is, in June I visited a solo exhibition of the artist and was truly amazed by how many amazing landscapes I saw. Apart from landscapes, there was only one portrait, that I had no words to describe honestly, as it was absolutely fantastic. Now I had the chance to see some other themes too. Not that I had any doubt, but now I can say Eduárd Csupán was born with a spectacular gift.

Last but not least, two abstract paintings.

This is the cocktail of the day, provided by Contactus. Let me know which one is your favorite, if you have any at all.

I can’t help it, that open yellow door with those vibrant colours and the way the light streams in… it’s my favourite. Although I really like that boat and the realistic landscape too.

The piece about ‘lost space’ is excellent, and the next one is as if you could see inside a person full of colours, but from the outside. It could be something mystical.

So many of the pieces are truly beautiful!!!😍

Thank you for the tour. Agree, some were 'weird', but interesting.

Iulia Cosman - Morning Chill was my fave.

  • I'm the most impatient person, but when it comes to art, I don't mind staying the whole day trying to understand it, only to go home still clueless, lol. Maybe it's because art isn't made for people to understand, but to leave us with something to feel.

Take Starry Night, for example. (btw, have you seen it?) Most people think the painmting is about the calmness of the night, but when I saw it, i actually felt his anxiety..maybe because of the swirling clouds, Van Gogh seeing how people live their lives normally as they end their day, with the lights from the homes slowly fading, while he sits on the hill wondering how different he was from everyone else.

"I've tried to understand modern art in painting, but as you mentioned, 'weird' is the best word I can find to describe it :D IMHO, a painting can have a lot of hidden meanings and details, but overall it should be just pleasant for the eye, not a workout for the brain :) That's why works like Morning Chill or Eduárd Csupán's doors are definitely much more my style!"
