It’s Starting To Be Too Much

Most likely I'm not the only one in this situation, as Hive has a few active users. Not as many as it used to have, but still, there are a few still standing.

There was a time when people were learning English or any other foreign language, to help them communicate with others, read and set them apart from the pack at work for example. Then internet was invented, translation apps appeared and all task requiring the use of another language became easier.

Today we have AI and seems like most of the people have high, academic level of language skills, without speaking a word in another language. They pride themselves in having perfect writing skills and when you turn off the internet or electricity, they are not capable of putting together a half decent sentence on their own, let alone speaking another language.

If you've been here long enough and started early on the legacy chain, you most likely have witnessed the evolution. It started with copy/paste plagiarism, then continued with rephrasing, after which came AI generated contents and what seems to be the norm these days is the use of AI to write comments. They say it's translation as they don't speak English, but when you look at the text and see it's all AI crap, has very little to do with how a normal humans being would comment on a platform like Hive, where there are no language skill requirements.

I've been getting a lot of such AI generated comments and honestly, it is getting annoying. Even though these are posted by humans, it's like bots have invaded the blog.

Now the question is, am I interested in interacting with AI, just to play nice? I think you know the answer. I don't see why I should waste my own free time to reply to AI generated, fake and meaningless comments to people that most likely didn't even read the post. Trust me, there are better ways to spend my time.

There were times when spending time on the platform was a lot of fun. You met a lot of interesting people, learned about their tradition, their habits, connected and made friends with them. It was a totally different life and it was fun. There were a lot of problems back then, life was not a fairy tale, but those were different problems. I'm not expecting life to stay the same, it would be foolish, but what I see now is just disappointing. It feels like the scale is tipping towards what it shouldn't.

This is my 9th years on the platform, counting the time spent on the legacy chain as well and was thinking what my 8+ years would have been using AI to write post and most importantly, to write comments. Imagine the process. You ask AI to write a comment, you don't even read it, or if you do, most likely you don't understand it (or care about it for that matter), just post it, job done, and you move on.

On the long run this leads to learning nothing, knowing no one and just doing this robotic, senseless, useless shite day in day out. Why? What kind of life is that? There are plenty who have been focusing on finding new ways to do wrong things. All that energy channeled into learning something could have taken you far in life, but somehow this is not clear to them.

  • It is extremely annoying as a lot are just a summary of your post with some shitty sweet word, it's so blatant and they don't even have shame

they are not capable of putting together a half decent sentence on their own, let alone speaking another language.

This is so true, to be honest. I realized recently that I am dependent on AI so much after buying Meta AI glasses without realizing it...

They say it's translation as they don't speak English, but when you look at the text and see it's all AI crap, has very little to do with how a normal humans being would comment on a platform like Hive, where there are no language skill requirements.

This is my concern too; I have been seeing a lot of posts where people are using ChatGPT to write translations. My biggest fear is that AI is not perfect, and if you don't know the language, it's impossible to understand whether AI is giving you the correct translation or not. And if you know the language, then obviously you can write the translated version easily of your own. AI can be used in many ways, but unfortunately, people are using it to take shortcuts and constantly destroying the creativity...

The scenery and the images are truly beautiful especially that fire pit. Just place a chair beside the flames, have a cup of fragrant charcoal-brewed tea by your side sit back, and enjoy the view💙💐💙💐💙💐💙

  • We feel the same, as funny things have now started on Hive, and the AI people are desperate. That's why I only reply to people that I know.

  • I've joined the platform too since years and I see in the last years the ai content increase a lot, honestly I speak two languages, well almost three but my French it's not so good, but for example I use deepl too for help myself especially with Spanish because I often mistaken with grammar, by the way ai contents are like a alien invasion nowadays, are everywhere also in social media And also here I prefer read not Ai post ( and it's not a matter of translation many posts are completely and obviously written by the AI and as you say seems robotic) it's bad because people seems to lost the ability to use imagination or to write a simple text. I honestly hope new people will join hive and create original content but the new hivers seems to use ai a lot.

I think they're hoping that by commenting someone will just blindly follow them and start curating their posts.

I prefer people to simply reply in their own language. I use Ecency to browse on my phone, so it's not hard to just tap the comment and translate it.

  • The Dead internet theory. It's not only Hive, but the entire Internet will be mostly AI content in a few years. Our @topcomment curation team has difficulties checkingbon AI usage too. I advise people to comment in their own language since people can easily translate comments with AI too.

I'm totally with you on the AI stuff. It gets old very quickly. But your photos...! Though they have nothing to do with the subject, they're truly fantastic! Makes me want to travel to Transylvania, or somewhere...

Wow I love this environment I wish to this beautiful place someday. It beautiful

  • @grindle(79)· 9h

I totally get it, ( keeping it short as AI drags on and on and on)
