I woke to another borked air lift pump print on the #3dprinter yesterday morning, but it is still useful. I took both with me to the job as Isaac was coming to help for a while so I could give them to him.
After a stop at Home Depot for hydraulic cement and some 2" pvc fittings I was at the water feature job by 9am. The fog made the fire zone pretty wild looking and a bit dystopian. It burned off quickly though.
I started off by trying to wash the dirt out of the river rock. It worked okay for the top layer rocks but beneath the dirt was still there... I have to figure out a better means of washing them.
After smoothing the dirt of the feature's pool and the stream I got the underlayment piece cut for the stream.
I fit it to the stream from the top down then cut smaller sections to finish covering the pool at the bottom. Isaac showed up as I was getting ready to haul the liner over so he gave me a hand and we got the liner laid in the pool first then laid the liner in the stream starting at the top so the bottom would overlap the pool liner. Then we got to work hefting the basalt rocks back into the feature. Have to start at the bottom as the fall rocks in the stream require support from below. It is a fiddly process to get the basalt to fit right and we got all the falls pretty much setup.
We worked our way up to the top of the stream and I cut away a bunch of the overhanging liner. He then had to take off but had been able to help me a good bit and I was able to describe what and why I was doing things the way I was. It gives him more info and fuel for designing the streams for his feature.
I realized that I will have to get concrete for the falls to set the slate fall rocks into so that I can then apply the hydraulic cement to it. Otherwise the water would just run UNDER the fall rocks and not over the top. That will be for Wednesday next week.
The pool has about all the basalt in it that I need and I managed to get an overflow setup that will go under one of the wall blocks and between the blocks below. That way water won't get too high and flow over the liner and possibly undermine the liner.I washed the rocks down but that got dirty water in the pool. I will pump it out later.
I kept adding basalt to the stream and got it largely filled. The river rock will get poured in from bucket loads and will fall down between the basalt. I will have a good bit of work to do to hide the liner all along the feature.
I likely will have to remove some of the basalt to make room for more river rock but for now it helps hold everything in place.
I still have a fair bit of basalt left which I will need for the edges and hiding the liner. I finally called it good for the day around 2:30 which meant driving home during the school ending rush hour. I got home and then had to unload the tools and materials from the truck as I need the room for today's job.
This morning we have R's school teacher conference then I will head down to finish the carport assembly job. Thankfully it is not dumping rain today so it will be a lot nicer and will make working a fair bit easier. The metal will go on the roof then I will lift a side onto my scaffolding to get the legs on, then will have to lift the other side to get the legs on it. I am taking the weekend off of working for others so I can work on my truck exhaust.
