Tomato Roots, The Metal Carport Assembly Job - Friday

Yesterday morning as we were getting ready to go to R's school teacher conference I noticed the tomato cutting had put off a nice amount of roots. 3 cuttings each have long tendrils of roots growing in the water. I will get them into soil today or tomorrow to try and keep them growing over winter.

The conference went great as R has been awesome this year, even the principal stopped us to tell us how good he is doing. A nice turn around from last year and his periods of acting out in frustration due to the trouble kid that was in his class.

I headed to my job for the day which was to finish assembling the 20x20 carport for my client.

The roofing went on fairly easily but I had to do a lot of loosening of bolts and then fiddling with the frame to get the holes in the sheet metal to line up with the holes in the trusses. Eventually I got it sorted and the roofing began to go on a lot easier.

By 12:30 I was started on the other side and had the main courses all done within an hour.

Thankfully Jim's son in law who lives across the street gave me a hand lifting the whole thing from one side while Jim and his wife got legs inserted. We then lifted the other side and the legs went in. It would have been a pain to try and do by myself so I was super grateful for the help.

It then took me only another hour or so to finish getting the roofing on, the ground anchors installed and the legs bolted to them, and the braces all installed. Last was the edge pieces of roofing.

I have to say it was rather touching to me as Jim paid me for my labor and I thanked him and he thanked me for my work he got a little choked up. It hit me how much it meant to him to have me work as hard as I did and to work with him on what he wanted with the assembly.

I will be back next week to build a quick roof between the house and the carport over the door using the 2 extra outside braces that could not be installed due to the closeness to the house. It looks like it should work perfectly and he even has a couple pieces of metal roofing that I will install over the wood I attach to the braces.

I'm watching Man Utd shit the bed in grand fashion against Chelsea now as they are the worst they have been in decades. Why do I torture myself this way, it's like watching a slow motion train crashing into a cliff.

Today I will go buy exhaust gaskets for my truck then will remove the exhaust and replace all the gaskets in hopes of eliminating many of the problems I have been having. The truck drives great and the engine has full power, it's just the exhaust leaks that make it sound loud and cause the computer to try and make the fuel ratio richer. It will be a bit of a pain but hopefully the gaskets will be the fix I need. It is REALLY REALLY nice to be back driving it though!
