On Friday morning I was up around 5:30AM and got the sprinklers going. Then I emptied the basil out of the dehydrators. I didn’t pack the leaves as they retain nutrients better if not crushed much, but they filled a quart.
The plan for Friday morning was to get caught up on posts. The heat pump guys were due to fix the 2nd floor unit around 8AM so I got ready for that time.
The truck arrived right at 8AM and there was only 1 guy. He spent 4 hours up and down all those stairs about 25 times trying to figure out what was wrong with the system, as it wasn’t the circuit board.
He finally realized someone had driven a nail through one of the wires and had to run a new one. He was here for 4 hours.
I got all the posts up by late morning and sat down with my feet up for a while until I got up for some lunch. My #3 helper was coming for 12:30PM and I had no idea what she was going to do.
As we sat talking about what she could do, as I didn’t want to do too much because I had an evening event, it occurred to me we could clean and move books into the empty bookcase in the living room. If we got lucky, we could fit 2 authors there.
So we set about moving all the Robert Parker books there first. We soon found out the hardcovers would not fit on the top shelf. So we put them on the bottom shelves and tried to fit the Archer Mayors on the top. Those hardcovers wouldn’t fit either.
So the job got a lot harder all the sudden. We cleaned off and brought the small table over by the stairwell and set about organizing the books in there. I put my books in chronological order by author as many are series.
To help me keep track of what I have, I’ve made chronological lists of the books by author and the lists were a big help in organizing them on the shelves.
I even had room left for more books afterwards!
I needed an easy job once we’d finished that so we decided to sit and clean up house plants.
We each had one we hadn’t finished the last time we did that so we got those and finished them. I finished mine just in time to go get a shower and get ready to go to the event. She worked on 2 or 3 more that weren’t as labor intensive. Then she had to go early as my ride had come.
I thought this was the same event I went to last year and had such a good time at. But it turns out it was a whole different one that I’d not been aware of.
It had been moved indoors due to threat of rain, to a church basement. There were about 100 people trying to talk, all elderly and some deaf like me. It wasn’t a large basement and with the DJ’s playing music, conversation was exhausting.
The food was catered by the same company as the one I attended last year, so I was anticipating a nice meal. But alas, it was not. Overcooked, seasoned oddly, just not nice.
The redeeming factor was the ice cream truck that came for dessert. That was the high point, mostly because it was outdoors where it was quiet and pleasant.
I got home to a cat in the last throes of death as it was 7PM and no one had been there to feed him. So once that was taken care of, I got the house opened up and just watched videos until bedtime.
On Saturday I plan to mow once the grass dries out. I should start the bills/budget too. It’s to be another nice day in the low 80’s.
